So.... in short, you need in addition to how your side x side comes from the factory:
Front and rear blinkers
A horn
A mirror that lets the driver see behind them
A light to illuminate the licence plate
A windshield or eye protection
A motorcycle endorsement
Insurance
DID I MISS ANYTHING?

WELL?

You need a mirror on both sides of the driver.
So either a left mirror and right mirror, or a left mirror and rear view mirror.
You also need a lighted speedometer.
The Safety Inspection manual was published lat week and people are scrambling to certify inspectors.

hey there...
last week i stopped in at the Polaris dealer in Centerville and they had a RZR that street legal and had plates on it that were issued in southern Utah. They have the full lighting kit, turn signals, mirrors etc. It was going to cost me $280 installed. Here in Davis county, LEO is totally opposed "to dealing with it." Lazy b _ _ _ _ _ _ 's! Guess they would rather play with their tazers.....
It's going to take awhile.....

Another question... When you go get your motorcycle licence that you need do they have you drive your side x side for the test?

Good question.
I'd say the DMV is where you get it, but as for the test I have no idea.
Someone want to call the DMV and ask?

so......
here's another little twist for you. The street legal issues is causing confusion at DMV and for us as well. Yesterday, i was at the DMV in Farmington getting my Ranger's title and asked the clerk if they had the plates yet for the atv's. She said they didn't have them yet. (Now get this) She then informed me that i wouldn't be able to get plates because "You can't ride on any street in Davis County." She said that only those that reside in the villages/towns that allow them to be driven on the streets will be issued them.
Of course i was getting a bit hot under the collar because of her total lack of knowledge. So i said to her that i wanted to be able to ride it in areas that did allow it on the streets. Marysville.....for instance or further south in Hurricane. Anyways, i'm guessing that i will look for another DMV that hopefully is up to speed with the issues in relationship to side x sides being street legal.
as a newcomer, i've had to adjust to a lot of quirks here. but the idea of only allowing residents to license them where its legal to ride is soooooo anal.....
grrrrrrrrrr

It's going to be a thing that will be difficult to resolve. I see them legalizing soon in all cities regardless of population or the citizens will license them under someone elses address much like the emmissions and tax issues that use to happen. There are towns within davis county and others that are under the 7500 population but how do you regulate each town without headache? My thought is give it a year or two for them to work the bugs out.
I would expect them to create a law in many cities to incorporate laws on roads and speed zones for the atv market and fines for under age or not "street legal" ats before letting us loose. They should have AIG send them to Arizona on a retreat
to figure out how that state does it. I wouldn't get street riding any hope along the Wasatch front for at least 3-5 years, two years ago the UHP told me they would never be street legal until the maanufactures took away the "off road only use" label.
Are we camping yet?

Interesting, obviously this is taking longer to get rolling than expected.

So has anyone licenced one yet? Any stations been certified or whatever yet? What seems to be the holdup?

AYL had a section for being street legal in utah. I will try to watch for it on their website and post the link as soon as it's available. I wouldn't get your hopes up riding on the streets along the Wasatch front anytime soon. ![]()
