I agree with mbroyles. You can never go wrong with orange. The flames look awesome too, good choice of colors and flames.

big_smile I give you some mad prop Duramx. That doesn't look like it's easy. I have wider tires on my rhino and a 9" lift on my truck though, so I think it might be hard for me. That's really cool though, thanks for the pics....

#108 Re: Where to Ride? » Where is it??? Moderators, how about some help with this? » 2007-09-25 11:47:47

#109 Re: Yamaha Rhino Performance Mods » RHINO REAR DIFF » 2007-09-24 10:30:32

I heard the 08 Rhino will have a deferent gearing in the diffs. Not sure if it is lower or high.

You dont really want to go changing gear ratios in your diff. Yeah of course it might help you get off of the line, but then it will hurt you in top end. Be careful whith what you do to your diff and dont do anythign where you're gonna have to tinker with it in between every race.... smile

In the back of your truck....

I haul mine in my 23' Attitude toybox. big_smile

#111 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » Great Deal on 2007 or wait? » 2007-09-24 10:25:46

I have an '07 and I think it is under powered in the sand dunes, even though I have done a few things to it, like CDI, RAIS intake, jets, and FMF pipe.  It is a great trail machine but I would think the higher elevations would have a big affect on it also.  I hope to find out in early Oct.  I have a variety of jets waiting in the tool box.  See if you can find soneone in Co. that can give you some better answers than this flat lander. I took it to Glamis, Ca. in Feb. and was disappointed with the power.  That was with stock tires.  After I returned home, I putchased some Aerospeed paddles and that did not help a whole lot.  May have actually slowed it down more in the sand.   As a side note, do you know anything about the annual ride they have in the Buena Vista area about this time of the year?

I am going to take a hard look at the new Kasasaki V-Twin 750 when it comes out in the spring.  Probably a step down in quality but not as far down as a Polaris.  Just my 2 cents worth.   lol

smile The rhino is a good choice even if it's an 07'. Why? Well, the rhino is good ont he trails, it does do decent in the sand. "Durmax" says it has no power in the dunes. What do you expect? Do you expect it to run like a 600HP sandrail? Of course not, It's an 1100LBS 23HP Utility vehicle. You can only expect so much out of it, but for what it is, and what a person can do with it, It is an extraordinary mechine.

Like i know what the difference between the rhino sna di know everything about the rhino i would need for racing, but i want to know...

Do you need a pit crew for somethign like this...?

Do you need a ton of extra parts?

is it expansive...?

That's what i need to figure out...

For desert racing you will need a pit crew.  you can't expect to undo your harnesses and crawl out to fill it with gas each time you come into the pit.  And if you breakdown your crew is going to have to get your Rhino back out of the desert for you.  The sponsoring club will get the drivers back to the pits if they have to, but they are not obligated to tow your Rhino back.  At least thats the way it is around here.

Basic spare parts are a good idea, such as spare tires/wheels, fuel pump, fuel hose, fuel filter, air filter, spare CDI, spare belt for the transmission, and perhaps spare axle shafts.  If anything more complicated than that lets go you can pretty much count on a DNF.

Yes it is expensive.  I only make it to a few races each year.  Sponsors would help with some of the cost.  Right now I only get parts for dealer cost, which helps, but not enough.

thank you very much 3tv. You've answered all my questions. I dont have time to race anyways. It would be something very fun and interesting, but just dont have time yet...

I'm in Bakersfield, CA.

I have a 2 seat custom one-off roll cage for sale for $900. It's set-up to where you can undo 2 bolts and the bed will open up on it no problem.

Let me know if you're interested, because I can send pics...
