Would you really get into trouble if you built a safety cage for the bed, adn beefed up the suspension for some added weight capacity in the rear? Mine would not have a full time rear seat setup. I would build the cage removeable. that would be just for crawling and trips. Around the house I would have the boys jump in the bed and hold on (while working around the farm).
It is really a legal thing. All ATV/UTVs are submitted to the federal government for approval on safety and emissions and when you change the machine from one purpose that it was originally designed for and make it into something else it will void the design approved on. Rhinos and RZRs are designed for 2 people only and Depending on the model of ranger they are built for 3 to 6 people. If you modify your UTV to hold more then it was designed to carry it is no longer meeting federal standards of the design and it will put the full force of a law suite on you because of the design changes you may have made. Now on the other hand if something should happen i don't think your kid or wife will sue you but if you are out camping and you decide to take some friends out for a joy ride and for some reason you roll it and someone get hurt or even killed the first thing the lawyers are going to look at is why a rhino that is designed to carry 2 adults was carrying 4 adults and was 200 to 400 lbs overloaded. You could build it and find out who could approve the design when it is completed but i am sure it would not be easy or cheap to do  . Here is an example of something that happened some years ago in California. Someone was buying cargo vans and converting them into small passenger buses and one rolled over a hill and rolled several times and killed some people. Well the company that modified the vans and the people that bought the vans as well as the driver was held liable because they were not certified for use as a bus  . It is not about modifying it. It all comes down to when you put lives in it :!:
.
Yes I caught all of that. I just thought I would chime it that ther is a SXS that has the XT nominclature. Prowler has a 1000 XTZ also. I will quit with the prowler talk now. Sorry.
You don't need to be sorry and there is no problem and keep chiming in, that is what this is all about
.
I have that covered  . I have a few also and so on and so on
....

I am never afraid to go camping but some of Titans Body Guards would help
:!: .
What you need to do before the turbo is a ported head and cam along with a bored throttle body, also the EFI tuner and exhaust then i would do the turbo. and then watch out everyone
.
Do you know who does those types of mods? Or which tuner is the best? And why would I want to spend money on an exhaust if I am going to get a turbo that replaces the exhaust? I am definitely interested in go fast goodies but I don't want to be throwing my money away.
Back on Topic BORE:
I like the idea of bored throttle body and ported heads because once I put a turbo on I will not be able to race the same class. They require naturally aspirated machines.
This is the best guy in the business for Polaris and he has been doing Polaris since the beginning. He knows the engine and drive line like the back of his hand and if you tell him what you want he will not steer you wrong :!:  . You will need to call him because not everything is on his web site. For Your question on why you need an upgraded exhaust. If you have a watter hose that is 2 inches and you reduce it to 1/2 inch what do you get. It goes the same for engine performance. All an engine is is an air pump, If you push a lot of air and fuel in it you need to get the air out or you are not making power :!: :!: .
THe prowler comes in XT and XTX
He's not talking about the prowler. He made a little mistake and had me confused a few months ago  .

The redwoods are one of california's most protected areas now days and i do not think any riding other then horse back is permitted and that would be only allowed on certain trails. anyway here is a link and maybe you can call them to see.
I am sure Jake would like to here from you and if you can PM him he could give you the info needed. It has been a little slow on the site lately and has not been much interest but it sounds like it is going to be a good race and they need all the support they can get. Hopefully things will pick up soon. If it was not so fare away i would not mind being a spectator there since i no longer race anymore. Oh bye the way really nice ride and what do you have done to it :?:...
Thanks guys i might do that what im talkin about is some power comin out of the curves. Ever heard of a chip i know they make em for trucks but for rhinos??
I know more about rangers then rhinos but as fare as i know there is no chips for rhinos and only the CDI on the carburated models and a ECM on the EFI models. Even in the automotive world after around 1995 chips were eliminated due to the new computers that came out and now they re-flash or add a ECM intercept box that changes the programing instead. The 450 would have a much worse power to weight ratio then the 660 or 700 rhino so you would have to do a lot more to just make up for the difference in CCs. We have the same issue when people buy the ranger 500 instead of the ranger 700 or even the 800. They normally wish that they had gone with the bigger engine. As like the ranger 500 you would have to do the same stuff like a re cam and higher compression along with the CDI and exhaust. You can also have the head ported and the carb reworked but this will take mucho $$$ and you still would have a 450 :?: . Also when you do all this the they tend to get a little temperamental. It is what it is and if you are not happy with the power output then maybe down the road you can find a good buyer for the 450 and upgrade to the 700 efi model. Anyway good luck on whatever you decide

I love the yellow tabby thing. I had a yellow tabby named taffy when i was around 10 years old
....
I figure i will add these pictures of the smoke from the Station Fire Seen from Palmdale on 08-30-2009. This would have been the same day that L.A. County Fire Lost two of there own on leaving camp 16 because of the fire......

OK very cool thanks for the input.
I live on the other side of the country
I don't think racing is fun.
I don't want to beat up my machine in the desert.
I'm to old
You are probably right  .

I cant speak for everyone else or for what it would take for a prize pay out because i would never equip or enter my UTV for a race. I just don't use it for that purpose and never would. There are a few people like Jarred that have shown a little interest that can use your event for good publicity for there companies but mentioned a cash prize would also be good to have. On cash pay out for a small automotive drag race event would be anywhere between 500 to a 1000 dollars for first place and second place would normally be half that and so on for third place. The entry fee would be 60 to 100 dollars per car.
Just to let you know that you are preaching to a person that has raced Drag and Road Racing along with other type of racing for 30 years in Pro and other classes. I was also big in illegal street racing way back in the early days and also drove a road race car at the world famous illegal mulholland drive in Los angles in the early 80s and it was all about the money then so i know all about racing. The prize money would go to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and that would help offset the expenses of the trip and wear and tear on the equipment as well as future improvements. As for the rest they are on there own. 98% of people that have UTVs use them for trail riding only and to make them race course ready can really cost big money for the equipment just to pass technical. This would be the equipment just to satisfy the promoter and there insurance and would not be needed for people that trail ride. Also these requirements can change from one race to another depending on who is holding the event. I know of a lot of people that race for free and they have big pockets and do it for the rush. I was that person but without the big pockets some years ago. As i said earlier on this thread i do not really race anymore but i do support it but there should be a prize at the end to make it worth while
