I’ve been reading about this issue.
Sounds like there is an easy fix though.
Other than that, these machines have virtually had no first run problems that I know of.
All and all I have to say, well done Polaris!
I can't be sure about this, BUT...
It sounds like it's running on 1 cylinder.
It is quite possibly the Engine Control Module. (Computer) (About $300)
Under the drivers seat, in front of the storage box.
I had one go out, and what you are describing sounds very familiar.
Mine started running that way, and never went back though. (Not something you want to happen 50 miles from the trailhead)
Get that thing checked out before it leaves you stranded.
2010 Ranger Crew baby!!!
What size and brand are your sand paddles? Also, how much are they, and where did you get them?
I NEED more traction in the sand!

One more thing. Does the 500 come with all the same features as the 700 (suspension wise)?
Is the 500 man enough? I'm gonna be putting around with the kids + me = 5 total.
Thanks in advance
Yeah, there were some tremendous upgrades done in 2009. If you drive one, and then the other, you will find it hard to believe they are even related.
Depending on several factors like elevation and the kind of terrain you will be riding in, I think the 500 would be way underpowered for 5 passengers.
I ride at elevations between 3,000 and 10,000 feet, and even sometimes found the 800 underpowered with 5 passengers. Sand dunes & high elevations are the worst situations. The 500 doesn't come with the new style suspension either.
With 5 passengers I found myself in low range struggling to climb out of some the bigger bowls at Little Sahara sand dunes. (About 4,000 feet elevation) Even the 800 needed to be in low range, or possibly have some serious clutch work done, because I just couldn’t get the RPMs up. It was bogging down.
The Ranger XP has some real disadvantages if you plan on putting a seat in the back, filling it with kids, and climbing any kind of steep inclines. It is Tippy! Sand dunes, Moab style obstacles, or even steep dirt trails can be sketchy.
Because I have kids to haul around, if I had it to do over I would have started with a 2010 Ranger Crew. The changes made in 2009 on the Ranger XP finally made it into the Ranger crew in 2010 (Along with the 800 EFI engine) The Crew also has lower gearing that multiplies the available torque better than the XP, so it’s like getting the 4.10 gears instead of 3.42 gears in your truck.
I'm in!
Call me and let me know the details.
I'll ask Shannon what the status is on his ride. That one sounds like allot of fun too.
Anybody in Utah interested in loadin’ up some camping gear on your UTV & getting into the back country this summer?
I just bought an ATV wagon to stow my camping gear in, and want to go explore some places like the Amasa valley trail system, & the lakes in the Uintah mountains.
I am thinking about 1 and 2 night weekend trips throughout the summer.
Anyone interested???
ATV wagon.

I would at least get new enough to get the dual front a arms with coil over shocks vs the older with single a arm and macpherson strut I think they ride a lot better and they started in 08' or 09'.
I agree...
They started that in 09.
MANY improvements starting in 09.
In 2010 they went with the 800 engine instead of the 700. (Nice improvement in power)
I guess for me it would depend what you can get a 2010 for vs. a 2009.
While we are on the subject, they made some improvements to the fuel injection system starting in 2011 that drastically improve fuel economy.
(Although with the big tank the ranger has, I have never been left wanting more fuel economy)
It's only money right???
WELL DONE!!!

Ive been looking for a way to put a decent sound system in my Ranger for awhile and then came across this companys website that has actually done work on them before. I called them and explained to them what i wanted and they suggested the JL Audio Stealthbox, and guided me through what else i needed. I orderd it from them and did the install myself and now i have MORE than a decent system now. When im offroading it still sounds like im listening to a theatre system! Ill attach the link to the website i found it on! They also do free shiping

Let's see some installed pictures in your Ranger.
That website is worthless for pictures.
 HOLY S#!* That is one awesome looking machine ! Is there anything "POLARIS" left on Brutus ?!? Do you use it for work or play ? Props to you... great job. Gives me something to look up to.
Thank you.
It's all for play.
Problem is, just when I get it done we find out we have a new addition to the family on the way. There will soon be 7 of us!
Now I need to sell it and get a Crew!

WOW! That looks nice!
Can't wait to see what it can do!
I would be interested in taking the travel trailers to Moab and doing some dry camping/riding out in the general area where we went over Presidents day 2009.
It should be a bit warmer in late March, than it was in Mid Feb. (Maybe the weekend of the 26th?)
Is something like that what you have in mind Lynn?
This trailer has independent suspension and a steel dumping bed. It also has amazing suspension and ground clearance! Great for work or play, it can do chores and then haul all your camping gear into the back country. It is tough but light in weight, and tows perfectly behind any ATV or UTV using a standard 2” ball hitch.
Extra fuel or water cans can be strapped to the sides of the trailer.
It was used for only 3 camping trips, and has been collecting dust since I got my travel trailer.
$ 500. OBO

We are just finishing up the details with our title sponsor for the May Rally! More info to come.
How about posting the big news… when you have it all done.
Why the suspense???
If nothing else works you can always try this. Your overheating issue will be OVER!

ENGINE OIL COOLER...
BYPASS THERMOSTAT (40% more flow) Similar to what Polaris is now doing on the 2011 Ranger

Clint Berry Racing made this radiator for me. It is a direct bolt in replacement, and uses the stock fan.

The stock fan is a very good one, made by spall (They make all the Ferrari cooling fans)
