#241 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 2011 Ranger XP Heat Problem » 2010-08-13 13:12:47

I am new to the forum and new to the Ranger community so any help provided is greatly appreciated.

I just bought a 2011 Ranger XP 800. After about 10 mins of riding I noticed that hot air blows out of the steering column. Is there a reason for this and is there any way to stop the air from blowing on the driver? Also I noticed that the ranger smells, could this be because the ranger is new and has not been broken in yet?

Thanks for the advice!!

Well the 2009 had an heat issue that was mostly fixed on the 2010 models if you include the foam kit that is mentioned somewhere on this site. As for the 2011 models I have no idea since I have personally not seen one yet and I am not sure on all the changes in the plastic. If the plastic is all the same I would add the foam Kit. As for the smell they do need to burn in for a while for the oils and paint to settle in.....

Do a search on heat issues and I listed the part numbers for the foam kit along with the added parts on the 2010 models that were added different then the 2009......

This is my first post here so hi to all.  I have a 2010 Ranger 800HD.  What is actually different from an 800 HO and the standard engine in the HD, I would like to have the HO power in my HD.

From other post.

Remove the restrictor plate at the throttle body. All 2010 Ranger Xp's also have a clutch limiter in the primary and removal of it will gain another 3 to 4 mph as well.....

#243 Re: Ranger and RZR Performance Mods » Polaris Ranger 800HD vs 800HO » 2010-08-12 23:48:02

Theres more to it than that because the 2010 xp has less power than the 2011 xp and theres no restrictor plate on standard xp's.

That is because 2011 rangers are under new EPA and carb laws and are running a new fuel management system. He was asking the difference between an HD and a HO model. The 2010 XP HO has around 8 more HP then the HD and crew models. You also need to re read my post because I never said that the XP had a plate. Only the crew and HD have the plate.....

What modifications have been done on the 2011 Ranger 800HO models that give them so much more power than the standard engine in my 2010 Ranger 800HD.  Are these modifications easily made to my unit?  I would appreciate all the information I can get on this subject.

#245 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Throttle or transmission issue? » 2010-08-12 21:48:51

sounds like a primary clean with air gun ! if that dont help clean with brake klean ! then brake kleen when running while reving the throtle  also do this with out the belt on  repeat as needed  this will clean the dirt out make  sure its moving freely if not you will need a repalcement
cleaning the belt and primary are the same as oil changes do it all the time for a good working clutch

You do not want to use break clean or carb cleaner because of the Teflon parts in the clutch system   :!: . Use denatured alcohol or electronics cleaner on the sheaves only....

Greetings.

My neighbor has a 2005 Polaris Ranger 700 XP that he asked me to look at.  When you step on the gas, the engine revs up before the transmission engages.  And then when it engages, it grabs real quick.  Is this normal?  Is there an adjustment somewhere or is it going to need some work?  Even after your rolling along, it seems to do it.

Thanks

B

It does not sound like a throttle problem. It sounds like a belt or primary issue. Also It may have an aftermarket clutch kit that will add a few hundred RPMs. Start with a new belt and a full service on the drive system and make sure that the primary clutch is not hanging up.....

Thanks once again Rangerdale.  Your diagnosis and instructions were exactly right yet again.  Tie rods on both sides were screwed all the way in.  I still can't figure out how we missed it during the first four hours of trying the move the toe in. big_smile

You are welcome big_smile ......

That is some good looking country. Is there a trail width rule there for Wider UTVs? The area looks kind of like an area about 80 miles from me called Kennedy Meadows. Here in California the one thing we do not run into is limitations on trail width for UTVs. That may be the only thing we have going that is better in California compared to some other states roll . Otherwise I hate it here.....

#250 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Ranger HD Lift & Carry with Tracks » 2010-08-05 11:45:31

Polaris got back to me today with an automated email response along the lines of "we don't answer technical questions, please contact your local dealer".

So I did that, and the local dealer called Polaris.

The local dealer said that Polaris stated that the tracks could not be used with the Lift and Carry System because the Lift & Carry adds too much weight.

I stated that I had seen multiple pictures of Rangers with tracks with the Lift & Carry on the internet and he more or less just shrugged his shoulders.

I am going to go ahead and do it -- but I will also add heavier shocks and springs in the front.

Craig

I have not checked on the newer models but EPI sells heavy duty spring kits for Polaris rangers. I am not sure you will need shocks though but that is your choice. Also now that Kabota is now useing polaris for there line now and they may have some heavy duty stuff since they run dirt scoops on the front of there UTVs.

As for Polaris they are horrible on that don't talk to use reply feature on there site. I ran into that a few years ago on something and it was rather nerving. They should remove the contact link all together on there site. As for talking with the dealers on issues I have had better replies on technical questions from my cat lol

what do you think of this one?

I think it looks fine but I also like the old one as well. The only thing is that there should be a Polaris as well as the rhino on it. My other concern is that people have come to know the old label of SideXSide Forum and it really states what this site is about without confusion....

#252 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » Red reverse light flashing when going in foward gear » 2010-07-30 22:16:29

I seen this post a few days ago but i am not a rhino expert. I thought titan would jump in since he normally has answers for  questions on the rhino stuff so i will give it a try now. Is the blinking light consistent when the problem happens like one blink per second or whatever, If not it is either chafing in wiring too short to ground or to positive on whatever system the rhino runs off of for switching. On Polaris some of the systems are switched on the negatived side which means positive to ground would turn on a light but that depends on the system used.....

Sorry I can not be much more help do to the fact that I am not fully familiar with yamaha's way for doing electronics......

#253 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Ranger HD Lift & Carry with Tracks » 2010-07-29 21:24:47

I am purchasing a 2011 Ranger HD.

Does anyone know if the Prospector SR Tracks will work with the Lift & Carry System, including the V-Plow, Grapple and Dump Bucket?

Thanks in advance.

I can not accurately answer this question but would assume if they worked on the 2010 and maybe even the 2009 models I would think it would work. Your best bet would be to contact the manufacture and check with them  .

#254 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 2007 Ranger XP700 breaks belts » 2010-07-29 10:28:55

My buddy has a Ranger XP 700 he bought new in 2007. He has put 4 drive belts on this thing since he has had it. We do not drive it hard. Up steep hills it is in low as it should be, not a mud bug or running up and down creeks. It is used mainly in open field or dirt or gravel trails in Kentucky. First one was replaced by dealer, second was done by dealer who said a broken mount was the problem and since then it had broken two in the last year! Any ideas? Last one, it broke on me while going down the drive way at low speed, under 20 mph. All motor mounts are good as are the bushings. Any ideas?

If the primary and secondary clutch as well as the motor mount have been checked out then the problem is most likely the engine to transmission alignment. A lot of dealers have no idea how to check this and it requires a special tool to check it and align it. here is the link for the tool but make sure you get the proper tool because there is an EBS and non EBS system. You can also try jarred at  www.ruthlessmotorsports.com  . There website does not show any support for full size Polaris Rangers but they still may have the tools available...

#255 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » '05 Ranger XP Alignment » 2010-07-27 12:54:37

I just replaced my '05 XP's steering. Now I'm having trouble with the toe in.  I adjust the tie rods ends out as far as I dare go and the wheels still point outward severely.  Can the threaded rod be screwed out of the crimped arm to further adjust the toe in or can you only adjust the tie rod ends?  If so, how do you adjust the threaded rod without tearing up the threads?
Thanks for any advice.

It sounds like the Tie rods are all the way tight on the rack side only of the of the tie rods   Make sure that both sides are all the way tight on the rack side on both sides then screw the tie rod ends all the way tight as well on both sides with the Jam nut screwed all the way on the tie rod ends. Make sure that the steering wheel is perfectly centered first by counting the numbers of turns the steering wheel turns from stop to stop and split the difference. Do not worry if the steering wheel is not level at this point but only make sure the rack is centered perfectly. Now install the tie rods onto the struts. Lock the steering wheel so it will not move and turn the tie rod out exactly the same number of turns on both sides till you have 1/8 to 1/4 toe out. Lock the jam nuts and reinstall the steering wheel so that it is level. Make sure all adjustments are done on a flat and level surface with the UTV on the ground......
