My Jet Skiing buddy (wife) busy this Saturday. Anyone want to meet up for a ride up AF Canyon? Or another place?

#1519 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » Wheel size » 2007-08-01 21:28:48

I am running 12" wheels and 26" Bighorns (are closer to a 27" or so I am told). I wanted more sidewall than the 14" offers. I am completely happy with flex and traction, but they do tend to slide sideways, which can be fun at times.

#1522 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » rhino valve adjustment » 2007-07-18 16:00:19

Thanks 3TV,

I actually got a copy of the service manual and checked my valves late last week. I removed the fan housing and fan - a little easier to turn it over but probably not necessary like you said. Covers have o-ring type seals, no gaskets (sweet). Feeler gauge access is tight - especially on the exhaust valves.

My biggest dilema was finding TDC on the exhaust stroke. Manual says to line up the timing mark and check the valves - if they are tight, rotate counter clockwize 1 turn and there should be a little play - adjust valves. Well, if all your valves are tight how can you be sure you are TDC on the exhaust stroke  :?:  I had absolutely no play (clearance) on any of my valves. So I assumed I could watch for the exhaust valves to open on the piston upstroke - line up the mark and be good - opinions?

Valve adjustment tool not necessary, I improvised with a small crescent. Adjusted my valves to spec - well almost... started it up and "tapity tapity" - used english number instead of metric number on the feeler gauge   Did I mention it was hot   I will find time to do it again this week...  :?

3TV - if you want to see the 3 pages of the shop manual (pdf) on valve adjustment - PM me your email address.

Thanks Dean. Looks like it is positioned under passenger seat - no removing engine cover to check oil? Explain the top bracket, to what does it attach? Can I get the red at the same price?

Agreed - no Joyner!
Rhino and Ranger have the best aftermarket offerings by far and the RZR will have also but is still new - let them work the bugs out first. I think this important because you can usually find better than stock parts for less $ and any add-ons required. Ranger would hold more perp's and equipment, the RZR would run them down faster and it will hold a gun  wink , but the Rhino would be the best of both big_smile Get the Silver Sport - with lights and police gear it would look awesome!

#1527 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » SERVICE MANUAL? » 2007-07-06 21:09:42

Purchased and downloaded manual from Ebay link. Looks like the genuine Yamaha service manual! 14.8 mb pdf (421 pages). I was able to create a new pdf of just 3 pages covering valve adjustement 145 kb (have acrobat distiller) I am not sure this pdf manual is even licensed. If you want to see these 3 pages PM me with your email address and I will send them over.

Thanks Ryan. If I could get a copy of the valve adjustment procedure that is all I need right now. I would like to get a service manual - where did you get yours? Also want to buy one of your storage boxes  - email me details - price, availabilty, etc. -  I could make a run to SLC, or we could meet up for a ride. My weekend kind of busy, but a Sat. morning ride up AF sounds cool.

How ya likin the XP Limited?

big_smile
Small hull, light weight, 130hp, suspended seat - I like it a lot. I can throw it around and it has the power to catch some air. Has a deep hull so tail spins are can be an adventure (in flight   ), but it carves turns very nice. I always get wet to one degree or another. My wife has a 3 man Kawasaki STX750 - she can stay fairly dry (me thinks she misses the point  wink  )
