#92 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Anyone found cheaper alternatives to Polaris oils / fluids? » 2011-07-17 11:57:06

Ranger Dale, outstanding info.  I really appreciate it.  I actually went and bought the fluids at my Polaris dealer before you posted.

I paid about $90 out the door for all the fluids and oil filter and grease.  Although I'm doing my 25 hour break in service, I decided to go all the way and do that service PLUS the replacement of all fluids.  Since I have the Uni-Filter, it just needs servicing, not replacement.  When I asked the Polaris service guy how much this service would have cost, he told me about $600.

I also adjusted the throttle cable and the shift cable/linkage.  Greased all the fittings (13 zerks total) and there you have it!  "How to save $510 in about 6 hours!

Hope my RZR appreciates it!

You've gotta be kidding!  I just paid $140 for the 25 hour service and complete fluid change at my dealer, and that included a new air filter also!

You need to remember. That post was from 2008 and prices may be different from dealer to dealer  ......

Hey Guys,,,Does anybody here have a 1999-2000 Mule manual that can tell me how to disassemble the drive and driven clutches?  The driven clutch is stuck and needs to be disassembled for clean-out and repair.
Also, I tried kawasaki.com and they only go as fas back as the mule 600 and mine are older,I think. 1999 Mule 550. Any help is greatly appreciated. Joe r

#99 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » good price or no? » 2011-07-02 14:40:43

ranger crew 800. 75hrs. 2009  she wants 8000$     driven easy. all she ever did with it was drive her kids around the mile section. good price or no?

If it is a 2009 it would be a 700. the 800 was introduced on the 2010 model year. 75 hours is low and $8000 sounds like a good deal big_smile .

#100 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Mid Size Ranger with 800 and Power Steering » 2011-06-26 16:50:53

Has anyone heard any rumour if Polaris will be putting an 800 into their midsized Ranger - The midsize, for me, is the perfect fit - I won't have to replace any of my trailers to haul it, it is narrower for my property and it would have more power to run a set of Tracks.  Nobody seems to know anything, including the dealer, so I thought I would put my question onto the street and the people who are 'in the know'.  I am close to buying an 800 Ranger with EPS, but don't want to make a mistake if they announce just what I want in a month or two.  I wrote to Polaris, but of course got the standard ' cannot comment on new models' answer., but perhaps this will eventually get to their R&D department and they will build it, you know that saying 'If you build it, they will come"

I am not sure by what you mean by mid size ranger :?: , There is the ranger 500 that is the same size as the ranger xp with less motor. All ranger Xps have the 800 engine after 2010. All the Razors have the 800 :? .

Joe - the stuff I use is a gel, but it will not work until the top layer of the sticker is gone. Top layer is a plastic, heat gun should soften the glue below and make it easier to pull the sticker off. If it has been baked on for years the glue may be tough...

BTW my ride is a RZR S with a stock 800 engine. Engine still stock, but this is what it looks like now (de-stickered and lots of non-engine mods)

Hello,,, To all here. Am brand new here to this site as I just purchased two slightly mistreated 1999 Mules from a going out of business Dairy. They both had engines but both engines locked up. One is Army green and the other is the red. I am going to begin on the green one by jerking the engine out as from what I have read, these small 286 engines leave a little bit to be desired,,,,and me being the speed crazy Guy I am,,, It's got to have a decent sized engine. Having a CB450 laying around and not getting used,,,I think the Mule will just love the new Honda power.
I began by removing the swing arm and fabricated a new engine/trans/rear end swing arm out of 1"X2"X1/8"  rectangular tubing. I fabricated the swing arm to be 12" longer than stock to accomodate the new drive train. The engine will chain drive to a sprocket on a jack shaft,,,to another sprocket mounted on the trans input shaft. I have not decided whether to re-use the Kawasaki design locator or fab something like I saw on a SideXside at Tractor Supply which used a "anti sway bar" type on each side of the swing arm that looked good and will allow for more travel of the semi IRS rear.
One thing I plan to do is to upgrade the charging system as the Honda engine generator just does not produce enough KW's for peace of mind when out on the trails. I plan to install a belt driven 70 amp alternator on the jack shaft that should keep the full size battery up to snuff.
These Mules have some decals that are very hard to remove. The rest of the paint is decent if I can get these removed. Does anybody have a suggestion or two to get em off without ruining the paint?  Thanks

Welcome to the forum and post pictures of your progress as it come together

As for decal removal, Heat gun and plastic scraper are the only way I know of on plastic but be careful. 3m makes a decal tool for use in automotive, but I am not sure it would be good on plastic....

#103 Re: For Sale & Want Ads » wtt built camaro for rzr or rhino » 2011-06-21 11:09:12

What about some pix?

He tried to do pictures and directly posted links on the post without using the forum software and confused the system to the point that his post was blank altogether when I seen it. I had to remove the links and make corrections to just get what is there now. He needs to go back and submit them the proper way now......

#104 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 09 700 no power » 2011-06-17 21:47:42

Mine did that and it ended up being the fuel pump

Welcome to the forum big_smile , Yes that could also contribute to the problem as well  . As long as the pump pressure was tested good it is more then likely would be TPS adjustment or sensor wink. The big problem is most people find out what the problem was and do not post a resulution on what it was so all people can have an idea as well :!: .

#105 Re: Goin' Riding... Who's with Me? » St. Anthony Idaho sand dunes Fathers Day Weekend » 2011-06-16 21:56:59

Yes, I am still whining over my problems!

I would not call it whining, just just venting steam lol .....

Anyways this is the most active I seen the forum in the last few weeks big_smile . There has been more spam then members on here lately and nothing else to do :?

Feel guilty highjacking threads. I have a HUGE tendency to go off track.

Anyway Ford denied my turbo, just another 2300 to my 50k truck now. Still cheaper than new, and the mechanic doesn't see much more that could happen except for tranny. Dealer backed up the opinion on other forums that 6.0 and the 6.4 has more repairs unless they are driven a lot. Most with over 100k miles have injector problems due to poor fuel filter maintenance but the EGR coolers and turbo's have less failures.

There is a product called hotshots secret that international uses and recommends. Run a full bottle the first time and then 1/2 bottle every other oil change after. I also always run dieselkleen in the fuel and also have a FS2500 installed to keep the oil clean. At least you have the good injectors because 2003 and early 2004 models have a spring plate that has been known to fail which means I have 5 that could still go at any time. As for the turbo the 2007 model was updated along with the oil lines to correct all its final issues. $2300 is a lot of money for the turbo and RandR. A rebuilt 2007 turbo is around $600 to $700 the last time I checked. Unless your turbo had a part failure, it should have been serviced under Ford Service Bulletin TSB 06-17-1 or international Service Bulletin  #201055 instead of replacing it.....
