I have never personally ran a windshield, My friend did put one on his RZR and it knocked nearly 5 mph of the top end, In dusty conditions i use my dirt bike goggles and a bandanna over my face.

#708 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Are windshields worth the $$$ » 2008-11-18 10:47:13

They are good to have and I would get one that removes easy, they keep a lot of the dirt out of your face and help in the cold but there is a big down side, You will lose a lot of top end due to the added air drag from the windshield  .

#709 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Ranger ball joints » 2008-11-17 10:10:55

The grease-able ball joints have a hole at the back center of the ball joint, they are not directional and there is no alignment, Polaris sells a ball joint tool but i made my own out of a 1.25 watter pipe about 3 inches long and a cap on one side, drill a hole in the middle of the cap and screw the cap on the pipe, Use a 5 inch piece of thread all and drill and tap on side with a 3/8x24 tap, that threads on to the ball joint, put a 5/8 nut on the thread all and tighten it to the cap, the ball joint pulls right out, as for the ball joints, they all have been superseded with a grease less ball joint that uses a Teflon insert, i did carefully drill the back of my new ones so they can be greased as they where a little bit, you have to be careful when you grease them because the grease can try to push the new ball joint out, the only grease-able ball joints out there are the heavy duty ones that EPI sells. If you find grease-able joints from Polaris they will be old stock.

Anything with wheels are a POS one way or another , regardless of who built it, this debate on Ford, chevy, Dodge, and now even Toyota has gone on for a hundred Years, I have owned all of them and have had problems with all of them regardless of manufacture :!:.

#714 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » SNORKEL KITS » 2008-11-12 11:43:55

OK, now that we know what you have i will say this, The 2008 RZR has a major problem eating dirt and they have made a lot of changes on the 2009 outside of just changing the air cleaner and adding a sealing grommet, They changed the air intake and added a dust shield and a updated snorkel, The RZR gets its air behind the seat and the ranger xp pulls its air through a snorkel system from under the front hood and for the most part it is a lot cleaner to pull the air from the front of the UTV rather then the rear of the UTV, The RZR gets its air from the worst possible place and that is one of the reasons they have problems, Grant22 has been testing the new air filter and he said it has stopped the dirt from getting into the engine but I am sure it still gets dirty way, way faster then if a ranger xp was running in the same conditions, If you really want to keep your air system cleaner and a lot longer on a 2008 RZR I would look at a snorkel kit just to protect the engine and keep clean air going to the engine, It is a lot cheaper then a new engine  .

#715 Re: The X Spot » RZR or Rhino » 2008-11-12 11:20:41

Ya, I just think that people see that kit and have to have it and don't look at what there machines are capable of, Or they are willing to roll the dice and take a chance on there friends and families safety, I have looked at some of the long travel kits on the web and the ones I have seen do not re-rate the UTVs they are going on for a higher payloads so the real only true multi passenger UTVs on the market that are rated to carry three or more are the Ranger Xp and the ranger crew. All the others are not sold or certified for more then two. Remember even the much higher capacity of the Ranger XP is really not designed for more then three or they would have put seats in the bed from the factory  .

im looking at a snorkel kit from xtreme products its 249.00 but i talked to a guy that has a shop and he said he making kits and he said 350.00 to install a kit that he makes out the door installed he said he has made about 7-8 kits and every one is happy with them. he going to do the fuel tank front and rear end vents. any one have the exreme kit or know a good kit or just have that guy do it

We need to know what you are running, This site supports more then one type of polaris and is not just RZR only, Let us know more so we can give you better info and then we can help :?: .

#717 Re: The X Spot » RZR or Rhino » 2008-11-11 21:07:59

When it comes down to running around with people in the rear bed I tend to look at the capacity and i know that they make rear seat kits for most, but to be honest, when you add the weight of the seats and the roll cage the rhinos and most of the other manufactures are way over the pay load bed limit of the vehicle, yes maybe your kids are light enough to go or your friends are very small and light, but that is usually not the case when i see people doing this, The rhino is limited to 400 pounds in the box and the teryx is limited to 500 pounds from the factory, The best suited for this is the Ranger XP and it is rated at 1000 pounds but i think with the stock adjustment it is more like 800 pounds but with adjustments it can be pushed to 1000 pounds and i have had nearly that in mine, it has way more bed area then the other two also, these are points to remember if this is how you plan to set up your UTV . it does become a safety issue at this point :!:.
