I do not have any thoughts about the attachment kits but it would be what I would replace my 2005 because of the new front suspension and the power steering and the other refinements.

#677 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » RANGER XP or RZR ? » 2009-01-04 19:16:02

Been gone on a six day camping trip so have not been on site for a while, the xp and the rzr is really built for two different jobs, the ranger xp is really a duel purpose work and play machine and the rzr is for play, i am 6'2" and 290 lbs and feel cramped in the rzr but still fit, The xp has a wider track and feels a lot more stable then the rzr's due to the heaver duty suspension and wider wheel base, there is a 5 mph difference in the two and a 100 cc difference in the engines, ranger xps are regulated to 40 hp due to some law that Polaris has to work with because of the classification of the xp's and are a detuned sportsman engine, it is normally due to the cam and ecu which can be upgraded to get it back to the sportsman power of around 45 to 48 hp compared to the rzr's 50 to 53 hp, the variations in hp are due to different dynos used in the test and altitudes they were tested at, Bigger tires and clutching upgrades and ecu and exhaust and hotter cam with fuel controller can get 60 mph out of a normally aspirated ranger xp, the 2009 was a big new step for it and would wait for the mid 2009 to 2010 models so if there are any issues Polaris should have the updates done by then, like Kryptonite said more info on the use would help.

#679 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » RZR Battery POS » 2008-12-23 12:31:08

If the battery is real low or it is bad the draw of turning on the extra 110 watts will fake a charging light to come on, the 700 and 800 have a 500 watt stator and it is only at peak wattage at driving speed, the rzr has a much smaller battery then the ranger xp's, 18 amp hours compared to 30 amp hours that the ranger xp has, everyone except me has been changing over to the battery made by Odyssey, it is a dry cell battery with 360 cca compared to 300 cca that the stock RZR battery has, from what another site says that it drops in the stock battery box, it may need a minor modification to the box, it is Odyssey part number 925L per the other site for the RZR and it is not cheap, for my Ranger Xp i use the stock battery and a Rzr stock battery for my Aux battery in a custom holder i made that is under the hood on the right side, I have never had any problems and it runs 2 1/2 sets of 55 watt lights along with the stock head lights, I do make sure that it is plugged into a battery tender after every trip like the one made by deltran made for 2 batteries, as for the warranty it is 90 days free replacement for the stock battery and i have heard nothing about Polaris Rzr charging problems except people moveing the voltage regulator to the front on Gen 1 and Gen 2 Rzrs to keep them cooler like they did on the Gen 3 models.

I had read you post and i know there was changes along the way from gen 1 rzrs to gen 3 rzrs, there is a posting that i did under the Polaris site about oem parts people and it will direct you to a site that will show the parts blow ups and you can compare the difference from one year to the other, yes i know dear can run 45 mph but that is why most hunting rifles shot 3000 feet per second, i think the site is  http://www.polarispartshouse.com/

That is a good looking car, I have a 92 5.0 LX with 30.000 original miles on it that i drive on the weekends only, It has some of the CHP police package equipment that i installed on it back in the early 93 and some of the SVO and 93 cobra performance upgrades also, the fun part it looks all stock and catches people off guard when they try to run it, but that was back in the old days, now i just drive it easy now.

It will never be made if the government says so  wink . Chrysler had to give up the big block V-8 when they took there bail out in late 70s, there will be big strings attached by the government in regards to what they can build and what they can't build, but we can not afford economically and job wise to let them go under either, the long term effect on this country will be catastrophic if something is not done to stabilize these companies :!: , how ever they do it  :?:, P.S. i would take the SRT8 challenger over the camaro any day and i am a ford guy  wink  wink .

The roar tells me it is the drive belt, that is the way sound when they start to go bad, i would pull it and check it, a roar is different then a whine.

I would try a good synthetic dry lubricant like superlube on the cables, also i would change out the gear case fluid and use the royal purple max ATF in the transmission , it being a real true PAO base stock synthetic oil it will flow good at very cold temperatures, I am not sure on this but if you could put some small pipe insulation around the cables it may help also. here is the site for superlube below.

#687 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 2007 polaris ranger xp » 2008-12-11 23:46:17

The 2005 and the early 2008 models have a straight cut gear set and the mid 2008 ones have a helical cut gear set, the early ones are a stronger transmission but not as quiet as the later ones, it is in the nature in the beast in the early ones and there is not a lot you can do about it unless you spend a lot of money for upgrades , the mid 2008 models were much quieter due to the transmission modifications for the year, he could upgrade to the newer model gears on his 2007, but it would not be covered under any warranty, mine sounds like a Alison truck transmission and i except it for what it is for a 2005 ranger XP, the transmission is checked all the time and after break in has no metal in the oil, the one thing everybody needs to remember that Polaris did not worry about drive train noise in the earlier models and did not start making changes till the middle of 2007, the middle 2008 to 2009 have had most of the updates done to ease the ears of people on this problem for the cost of strength.

Thank you Tim for your comments, it will be hard and only time will heal, it is a real shame that there are people out there that would do something like this   .

#689 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 2007 polaris ranger xp » 2008-12-10 20:06:54

The rear ends are normally what don't make the whining noise but it is normally the transmissions, that may not be the case with yours, jack the rear of the UTV up and chalk the front wheels front and back, take a long big screw driver and put one end to your ear and the other to the parts in question to isolate were the noise comes from while in gear and running, BE VERY CAREFUL HERE BECAUSE IT IS A VERY DANGERIOUS AND YOU COULD GET HERT  :!: , THIS IS TO BE DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK  :!: , you can get a mechanics scope from the auto parts store also that looks like a doctors scope with a long probe on it to do the same thing, you need to drain the fluids from the transmission and the rear gear case and check for metal and water in the oil since you have received it second hand, if it checks out try removing the roof and see how much of a difference it makes in the sound level also, the dealer has a valid point here , the 2005 thru 2007 models have always made noise but because of some part upgrades Polaris has made them much quieter on the new models.

#690 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 08 RZR Transmission Problem » 2008-12-08 15:00:37

I have not heard of many transmission problems with Polaris products and have not heard of any recalls, they all seem to work well, the earlier XP transmissions had straight cut gears and they were a little noisy, they latter went to using some helical gears to make them more quite, the only reasons why they would not shift well would either be because the primary clutch is not fully disengaging, to high an idle, the adjustment or alignment of the transmission from the engine, to tight of a drive belt, or the use of 90w gear oil instead of the use of Polaris oil or transmission fluid in the gear case, again yours may have had a rare manufacture problem also, and maybe the other owner was shifting the gear case when the vehicle was moving, they are only to be shifted at a full stop, this will destroy a Polaris gear case, sometimes you can find gear cases on E-BAY for way cheaper, also you can look into who manufactures the transmissions for it, they are made by the DANA/SPICER corporation in Fredericktown, Ohio for the Polaris corporation.
