#616 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Engine Knock, 2003 Ranger 500 4WD » 2009-06-02 19:01:20

Well this topic has been gone over before and here is the post i did for oils and filters.

http://www.sidexsideforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=1096

As for the other post you did, an engine an tranny is only part of the change over needed to convert from the early 500 to the 700 like was posted earlier, you would need a donor ranger 700 XP to do the change over because you would need all the electronics from the donor to do the change over, ECM, ECU, Cables, Wiring Harness, and much more. The cost for the change over from Polaris would be cost preventive if you ordered from them. It would be much, much cheaper to just rebuild what you have. This is about the best advise i can give since i am not there to asses the problem personally.

We never heard back from him, It is the norm for most people that only post a few times looking for answers, You may want to try to PM him and maybe he will give us a update to the problem  .

Keep up posted on what you come up with, It is an interesting modification that i am sure others will need for your same reasons  .

Keep me posted on how the test goes and let me know if there is any metal in the oil.

#622 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Engine Knock, 2003 Ranger 500 4WD » 2009-05-31 18:44:41

On this one i need to know how loud the knock is and just a little more detail. try to isolate it by holding a large screwdriver to your ear and touching it around the block to pin point were the noise is. They sell a mechanics stethoscope at most auto parts stores and this i a great tool to have and is safer then the screwdriver method, Remember it could be coming from somewhere else like the driven clutch or something else like that. is there any metal in the oil, there is just not enough info to work with at this point for a engine with no hours  :?:  . One last thing, the 700 has a plug just by the oil filter that a gage can be hooked up, i would think the 500 should have one to so you can test the oil pressure  .

#623 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 2003 Ranger Engine Swap » 2009-05-31 18:33:57

The 700 and 800 engines are the same unlike the 500 and the TM models. I know the 2004 and 2005 chases are the same from the 500 to the 700 but not sure on the 2003, I would think it would be the same though, the one thing is that the 700 family would be fuel injected after 2003 and would need all the parts related to the fuel injected engines and that would be a big parts list not to mention brackets and drive belt and other related stuff, you would really need a donor ranger to make it cost effective.

Well that is a hard question to answer because i have never done it on one, I do know that Polaris has changed pumps from year to year and they are all in the tank on the RZR and XP models, One idea is to maybe build the cell to run on an external pump and make sure to regulate it to around 30 lbs and use a fabricated pick up, as for the stock pump with a little work i cant see it being to hard to fit the stock pump in a shorter tank but i never cut one down before and there may be a problem with the fuel gage.

#625 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 2005 polaris ranger 500 starting issues » 2009-05-26 10:55:17

Having trouble. Started it up one day, and it was cutting out. Killed it and went to start again and would turn over and nothing. No fire on spark plug, or wire. Replaced coil hoping that that was the problem. Still nothing. Thinking it could be the ignition switch but not sure. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Would like to get resolved to avoid going to the dealer to get ripped off. Thanks

The problem is most likely the trigger at the flywheel pick up where the stator is or the CDI box from what you have said.

#626 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Razor or Razor S??? » 2009-05-19 23:10:35

deer hunting but im not looking to get the deer on the back of the razor, i want it most of all for rock crawling and trails, because it says that the razor s its for dunes and desert so i dont know which one would give me a better performance if a razor or a razor s for the things that i want it for.

RZR-S PERIOD, there is no second and do not be concerned about it, it is like night and and day :!:  :!:  :!:  . I am not sure why this dission is so hard to make  :!:  .

#627 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Razor or Razor S??? » 2009-05-19 22:53:28

this topic has been a beaten horse.

lol   The RZR-S is hands down with out a doubt a sweet ride for sure but I have to ask, What do you hunt?  If its anything bigger than rabbits and birds you may want to think about something with some cargo room in the back. (ranger, rhino, teryx)

Rock crawling? Unless you thinking about lift kits and rock sliders Id be looking for the most ground clearance you can get, My Rhino is 12+ inches and it bottoms out and rubs on everything when im in the woods. 2 inches less is alot when it comes to rocks and stumps.

Well you bring up the other good topic which has been degaussed to a beaten dead horse but what if you want to bring more then two passengers and a load of firewood in the bed of a 5X8 trailer behind you. well i would have to say Polaris Ranger XP or HD with out a doubt :!:  big_smile . just look at the math. everyone else is 500 pounds or less in the bed and Polaris ranger 1000 pounds in the bed and 1500 to 1800 lbs towing capacity depending on what model ranger you want. the competitors models just are not set up for that :!:  .

Only performance products made by and installed by a Polaris dealer will not void the warranty, It depends on if the dealer will turn and look the other way on your modifications is the chance you will have to take.

#629 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Razor or Razor S??? » 2009-05-19 19:30:05

im just about to buy a razor but i dont know which one if the razor or the razor s, i want it specially for rocks, trails and water and there are no dunes at all where i live, oh and hunting i forgot can someone gimme a hand

If you do a search on it here there is more then enough info because this topic has been a beaten horse. Personally go for the RZR-s hands down :!: . If you have any specific questions on it i can try to handle it for you  big_smile .

#630 Re: Ranger and RZR Performance Mods » What pipes are you guys/girls running???? » 2009-05-19 19:25:34

Again it sounds like they don't specialize in Polaris at all, It is like going to a guy to rebuild and hot rod your 426 Hemi in your cuda and he has only worked on small block Chevy's all his life, He may be good on Chevy's but does not know the In's and outs on chrysler or ford products. :!:  .
