#541 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Ranger XP 800 or Prowler 1000 » 2009-07-29 16:43:07

They are both great machines and all i can say is do a search on this site and way out all the options. The rangers have been out a lot longer and have had a way longer track record then the others. Asking a Polaris guy like me if he would rather own a prowler over a ranger after a flawless record with my present Ranger would be unfair but hear it is my answer. I would only buy the ranger and only the ranger because it has never let me down and has always done what i have asked of it. Go to the Yamaha site and they will say the same for there rhino as well as arctic cat and Kawasaki, This debate will go on forever and ever....

That was funny titan but your first was younger then my first by at least 12 years or so lol , As for that nimrod spammer he sent 7 over seven site notifications to me and got me excited after a boring  two weeks of nothing to do on this site roll. If he continues I will notify the site god and see what can be done  over this guy :!:.

What you have is a Nikki carburetor and all i can suggest is to replace the main jet along with a new solenoid and see what happens next. you are the first one i think that has asked a question on the TM model on this site and they are rare compared to the 500 and 700 models. Good luck and sorry i do not have more for you on this.

#545 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » What I hate about my Polaris Ranger 700 XP » 2009-07-21 07:18:50

The Ranger Xp's are the least likely to do a roll over due to there wider stance and suspension and center of gravity, they are way more stable then the others because of that. The standard RZR is well known to tip over if not operated properly as well as the rhino and i have driven them all, I was very impressed with the RZR-S though. I have not driven the arctic cats so i cant speak for them but would think they are closest to the Ranger Xp's because of there wider stance as well. Any UTV or ATV can be dangerous if handled in an unsafe way......

Well my 2005 has been working without any issues since 2005 and has done everything from 100 mile round trips to hill climes to working hard on my friends property hauling 600 lbs of firewood in the bed while pulling 1000 lbs of trailer and firewood up and down hills and it never broke down once, It is very well taken care of and i will have it till i buy a new one around 2013 or 2014 if there still around and it will be a Ranger HD for sure next time....

For question A. I'm not sure how to answer that one. For your other questions the compression should be around 150 to 200 psi and you have an early Gen 1 RZR. I would do a full maintenance and clean the Tmap/Tbap sensor and check for silt going into the engine through the air intake system. I am a big fan of K&N filters on anything other then the 2007 and 2008 RZR due to the Induction system and where it gets its air from. The filter is part or the recall and it has a much better Micron rating then the K&N But it will not flow as well, That is a choice that you have to make, a little less power or what is safer for the engine, If you do a lot of riding in silty dusty conditions i would remove the K&N or install a snorkel kit to bring in cleaner air from a different source. I have done some threads on service oils and filters and if you do a search you can find info on TPS sensors and the tbap/tmap cleaning.

I may have been a little ruff on you Ranchodms but the way you posted the subject and the thread made me think you were here to complain and not here to ask a question and i am sorry for that  . It is easy to miss interpret writing stiles sometimes. I have driven almost all models since 2004 and i personally have not had a problem with the peddle location but that is me. Good Luck on whatever you chose and welcome to the forum smile .

Ok, so I haven't bought one . . . yet!  I am interested in the down side of them and what are the regrets?

I test drove one the other day and felt like the front of my foot was trying to bend back and touch the front of my leg it was so uncomfortable on the accelerator.  When asked about it, the sales buy mentioned that accelerator placement was the #1 negative comment he got about the Ranger XP's.

Have others had this challenge and or how have you delt with it?

Any and all comments are apprecited as I try and sell myself.  Thanks in advance!!

Well it sounds like you have your mind all made up already before you asked the question so go buy what you want from another manufactures, I personally have no issues with it about what you are complaining about and i am 6'2" at 290 lbs:!: So don't complain about something that you don't own   :!:. It is that plane and simple  ......

When you get your RZR all fixed up I would take the old parts you have replaced and go throw them threw the kitchen window of the previous owner.  wink

Yea, I am amazed on all the problems that grtrnd1 has had and the only thing i can think of is that the previous owner really abused this machine mechanically. There were parts that were bad that don't normally go bad for many years. It is almost like it was used as an endurance testing platform for the running gear.

Well from the way it sounds it looks like the bearing is still not working and until then we will not know how the fueling issue is working out. let me know by PM when you are ready.

#555 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Need Help » 2009-07-07 19:03:26

It is safer rich but yes clean both plugs and put another 40 miles on it. Lean would be white and a good plug should be tan to brown with maybe a tad of black. what is on the plug now maybe from all the tuning and an AF gauge is what measures what the air fuel ratio is and reads it out of the tail pipe with an O2 sensor. A lot of the guys install them to adjust for proper air fuel when adding a fuel controller for modifications on there engines and the exhaust and to tune them better to get around EPA stuff. they are a good tool to make sure that the fuel curve or jetting is set properly. Polaris RZRs tend to run rich at idle and low end and a little too lean at top end.
