#18 Re: Yamaha Rhino Performance Mods » Share some ideas on getting better top end. » 2008-09-01 13:57:28

2006 660 and it has a clutch mod, a new CDI, K & N, and 170 main jet. I elimanated the air box and have the K & N in the passenger compartment to keep it clean. On my test run yesterday it had all the lower end that I could hope for up to 30 MPH.  Then it started to dog it and wouldn't go much above that speed.  Any ideas.  I did open up the stock exhaust a little but haven't opened up the air jet yet. Symtoms sound like anything you might have experienced? Prior to the mods it was hard starting and needed the choke all the time.  Now it starts right up and when I crack the throttle it winds like crazy with out a load. All feedback and ideas or experiences welcome.
Thanks,
Pat (SANDMAN) Nevada

#19 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » Reversing stock tires on Rhino. » 2008-08-31 17:38:12

Has anyone ever tried to reverse the tires on their Rhino to increase traction in the sand?  I know the arrow shows you how they want the tires to run but will that hurt anything to reverse them?
In my warped mind it looks like the reversed tread will push the sand into the middle of the track and help to keep you on top of the sand.  What is the lowest air pressure that you have run and not lost the "Bead" and got a flat?
Thanks,
Pat

#20 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » New custom intake system by me, need jet info! » 2008-08-31 17:26:57

Bradley, What needs to be done with the pictures?  They show up real clear on my computer while in the forum.
Increased the main jet to 170 today, opened up the exhaust and did a test drive.  Wow! low end up to 30 mph is radical then it seems to be running out of gas again.  Will do a plug read tomorrow and try to find a 175 and 180 jet to see if that helps.  I also want to drill out the air plug and turn out the screw;.  Anyone tell me how to recognise that plug.
Also it used to be slow to start without the choke even when really warm out side.  It starts without the choke now and runs right away without any choke.  I like that!
Thanks

I fabricated a new intake system.  It replaces the under cover dust bucket with a large K&N in the passenger compartnent.  Since I have zero air restriction now I'm sure the reason it won't run properly is the jet size is too small now.  No top end and no low power as before the change.  Suggestions??? Much bigger jets???
Thanks,
Pat
