#16 Re: General Discussion about Yamaha Rhinos » Roll over lawsuit » 2008-07-21 03:34:54

I have had my Rhino for years and had it in many situations where tipping could or should have been an issue. Never once has it even remotely come close to going over. When you buy an off road unit like the RHino,Ranger,RZR,Prowler and such you must understand you are taking a risk. What is going on now is  no different then the mid to late 1980s when every one was putting kids on the quads like the Honda 250R and letting them go because it had four wheels and in their minds couldn't tip over like a motorcycle. Now I see people doing the same things on the UTVs. Here it is people as harsh as it sounds YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN NOT YAMAHA -HONDA-POLARIS OR ANY MANUFACTURER!! I feel for everyone out there who has been injured or has had a child injured but in the end you are responsible. You took the risk when you purchased your unit and decided to go off road. Yes offroading is great fun but it does come with risks along with rewards. I have been going off road on motorcycles, quads, trucks, jeeps, buggies, atvs and now utvs for over 40 years and can tell you they all will hurt you. If you are not willing to take that risk and do what you can to limit that risk by learning how to handle your chosen toy then stay home and play checkers. You will be a lot more happy.
A few rules I follow:
1.) Learn to drive your chosen toy. They are no different than learning to drive a car when you were a kid.
2.) Never let an inexperienced driver in  or on your toy without constant supervision.
3.) Do not run terrain that is above your skill level, I.E. you wouldn't put a 5 year old on a mini bike on a supercross track so why do people think it is ok to turn kids loose or drive over their own heads on a UTV?
4.) Take safety seriously at all times. Wear the seat belts always. Never let  children operate your UTV unless an experienced driver is present. I see too many kids running the hell out of these things in my area with no adults around. In extreme conditions wear helmets to protect you if there is a roll over. Look at the racers they have helmets on not cool looking dew rags!

I am again sorry for everyones loss but own up! The manufacture did not hold a gun to your head and make you buy. They also did not tell the farmer to try to do a cookie in a remote field nor did they make us put our kids in one. That was our choice as adults.  As Honda says "Stupid Hurts" and it should. Sorry for the harshness but I am tired of people getting lawyers and going after manufactures for their own poor decisions.

#17 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » Ranger Crew off road opinions please » 2008-07-20 17:03:27

Of those of you who own the Ranger Crew what is your opinions of this unit off road? I am considering going from my Rhino to one of these and would like to hear from people who have them. We run primarily sandy trails, mud and two tracks as well as it would be made road legal. I know it is much bigger than the rhino or my wifes ranger xp standard model. But really how does this thing do off road?

#18 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » street legal? » 2008-07-20 17:01:05

We convert them here in Michigan. We have four in our group alone that are road legal.
They need turn signals, laminated glass (auto) windshield, wipers, washers, bumpers, seat belts, high and low beam lights with high beam indicator, and dot tires. Our group uses 28" tall super swamper tsl tires on 14 inch ITP wheels. It is worth every penny to get the plate for sure. It opens a lot of running here in Michigan. Just go to your secretary of state offise or DMV in some states and they can give you the information on what you will need. It is the same road legal inspection form as cars use.

PM me if you need any more info.

#19 Re: Yamaha Rhino Performance Mods » Snowmobile Clutch??? anyone » 2008-07-20 05:24:39

You can get the sheave as a kit with rollers. I did and mine works great. Yes the snowmobile clutch is good in theory. It gets a lot more hp to the ground but so far no one has been able to make the thing last with out eating belts when you trail run it. Hec PDM has been trying to make a cover for theirs for over a year and they cant get it done with out overheating. As for the rotax ideal. It is a ton of money but man will it fly! If all out speed and power is what you want make the rotax swap now before you put a ton of money into your rhino motor you can never get back. FYI: The rotax motor runs a snowmobile style clutch as well but made for ATV use.

Our group has had three of the pro com boxes and all three are about impossible to start when the weather gets cold. As well 2 died with in 6 months and the other was trash canned before that one left us stranded as well.

I have a dynatech box now and it works great. Hunter works has a good box I hear but have not tried it.

1.) CDI box. Use anything but Procom
2.) Aftermarket sheave
3.) Look into clutch kits for your specific use. Duner kits, big wheel kits what ever.
3.) Open up the exhaust some. DO NOT REMOVE THE SPARK ARRESTOR!
4.) K&N or Uni Air filter will help some but will also extend the life of your motor over the nasty stock filter.
5.) Buy or borrow an air fuel meter set up and get your jetting right! I thought mine was jetted good until I purchased the meter and actually got it right.  I picked up 3 mph by simply cleaning up my jetting.
6.) Higher compression piston stock bore or 686 (if you have a 660) You can go to about 11 to 1 on premium pump gas.

This is a good start. As usual speed you achieve is directly related to how thick your wallet is!  lol

#22 Re: General Arctic Cat Prowler Discussion » Arctic Cat Prowler 1000!!! » 2008-07-19 05:54:18

Our group currently runs 2 rhinos,a RZR and a full sized ranger. I would say the only advantage to the narrow RZR is for the 50" or less atv trails. We street legal ours so there is no lack of riding without hitting the 50" trails. I love my rhino and have a ton of time into it but I will be testing the 1000 when my dealer gets one. I am hopeing for Cat to have fixed a lot of the stuff I did not like about the earlier prowlers I drove.
