Here is another one. Doors are finished but I didnt snap a pic before I took them back off. Roof is cut but still needs tabs welded on to bolt it down. Moved the mirrors because it was hard to see with the window nets up. So all thats left is one more window net mount. Tabs for the roof some small welding in hard to reach areas. And spare tire mounts.
Please don't ask questions like "what do you have into it?" That would be a little scary to know. I can tell you I have don nothing to the engine and suspension and not had any issues. I change the oil often and oil and lube all joints regularly. And I have never had any mechanical issues other than a blown fuse because of my new HID's and LED's. The cage was expensive (RacerTech), the seats were expensive (UTV Crap), the wheels were expensive (UTV Crap), The Seat Belts were expensive (UTV Crap). Other than those items just a stock RZRS.
Sounds like plenty. Do you have window nets?
Jake, I will be out there to support you and all other Side x Side Racers.
This map may help others fined the race course.[/font:ff0c698e09]Greg[/font:ff0c698e09]
Thanks for the map Greg. Your support for all this SxS stuff is great. With any luck my machine will still be together to make a trip for a wendover ride again in October.
My wife has a race that weekend or I would be there. I was the only out at the Knolls Race. Needless to say I won. My machine loves to hit whoops at high speed. Is there really no one interested? If we could get a good turnout I might just ditch out on my wife's race and come out and play with you guys.

Im not sure hoe large of a turn out their will be for the UTV's but it will be better then the knolls. I would love to see you their if you can make it.
Their are no plans for this one.
This is how my progress ended for the day.

Im thinking that it isnt the prize money. It may just be no one wants to race.
Since no one is interested in racing maybe some of you will be interested in my new roll cage progress.
So when I bought my teryx last Jabuary it was too tall to fit in my toyhauler. So new roll cage right? I was broke and had to make due with what I had. That was stock roll cage feet cut off and 1.5" .095 tube I had in my garage allready. It turned out ok
So now work has picked up and with the holiday weekend I had some time and money. This is the rear bumper section that will tie into the cage
The rest are of what I have finished so far today and a little yesterday.
As you can see I still have a ways to go but its staring to look like a roll cage. It will have full doors and window nets also.
OK very cool thanks for the input.
So this can not happen for this race but if their is some UTV's that show up and Bonneville off-road wants to make it a permanent part of it series I would be happy to talk with the owner to see if we could work something like this out.
1st place $500
2nd place $250
3rd place $125
Around $100 entry fee?
I think to get something like this to work it would have to be contingent on a set # of UTV's that enter in each class.
Something like 15 UTV's per class minimum for full payout?
So here is the big question for every one.......... IF I could talk Bonneville off-road into something like this is their anyone who is not racing now that would race with a payout program like this?
I'm not talking about I might or I would if I was going to race but I don't want to race. I'm talking about who is not going to race September 19th only because their is no payout but would be their 100% if their was a payout similar to the one listed above?
Also if its not the lack of payout keeping you (you is who ever is reading this) from racing what is it? And not to be rude but I'm not looking for answers from people who will not race because of reasons like..
I live on the other side of the country
I don't think racing is fun.
I don't want to beat up my machine in the desert.
I'm to old
I'm talking to the people that are reading this and thinking man I really want race my UTV with Bonneville off-road racing ....... but i cant or will not because?
Just to let you know that you are preaching to a person that has raced Drag and Road Racing along with other type of racing for 30 years in Pro and other classes. I was also big in illegal street racing way back in the early days and also drove a road race car at the world famous illegal mulholland drive in Los angles in the early 80s and it was all about the money then so i know all about racing. The prize money would go to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and that would help offset the expenses of the trip and wear and tear on the equipment as well as future improvements. As for the rest they are on there own. 98% of people that have UTVs use them for trail riding only and to make them race course ready can really cost big money for the equipment just to pass technical. This would be the equipment just to satisfy the promoter and there insurance and would not be needed for people that trail ride. Also these requirements can change from one race to another depending on who is holding the event. I know of a lot of people that race for free and they have big pockets and do it for the rush. I was that person but without the big pockets some years ago. As i said earlier on this thread i do not really race anymore but i do support it but there should be a prize at the end to make it worth while
.
Ok so again I ask you and every one else. How much prize money would it take to get you out their. And with that prize money how much would you pay for a race fee.
BORracing is thinking that a lower race fee with no payout will bring more people overall out to race then a higher entry fees with a payout for a select few.
I have to say I agree with them.
All the emails I have got from people saying they are coming out are people like me who think Desert racing is cool and see a way they can take part in the fun for much much lower cost then racing a truck or buggy. We are not people looking to build full on race machiens to go race SCOrE or BITD We are just taking the same UTV's we dune and trail ride with adding some basic saftey gear that's nice to have anyways and go out and race 1 - 4 times a year.
So who is planing on showing up?
Anyone need help with anything?
Im going to order tube tomorrow so I can do some work this weekend so if anyone needs any door bars harness mounts what ever speakup.Well you might still find someone that still may be interested here in your race but it is looking like you are the only one at this time with your amount of interest in it. Like they said earlier in the posting that when there is no prize money why drive hundreds of miles and beat up your equipment in a race for a five dollar trophy and risk destroying there rides just to prove something. It is a little different when you go out on a weekend trail ride with your buddy's because at that time you don't push your equipment at a 110% through the whole ride like you would have to do in a race and also on a trail ride there is no one trying to push you off the trail to get in front of you for that five dollar trophy. I think it is great that you are willing to help people to prepare for it also and that is very kind. Anyway good luck on your race and stay safe.......
Again I'm not racing to "prove" anything.
How much prize money would it take to get people to race? And with that amount of prize money how much would you pay to enter that race?
My guess is unless we stick our hand out and get President Obama to have a nationalization of desert racing and let the tax payers pay for us to race the numbers just wont add up.
Is prize money the only reason no one is interested? Their can only be one winner so even if their was prize money and 20 people show up expecting to win it does that mean next race 19 of those 20 wont come back?
I have a hard time thinking Im going to take first place. I cant be the only one that thinks racing is not about the money. Again the idea is to get more people out for a race then to get that one fast guy with the $40k UTV who just shows up for the prize money.
Borracing was built by racers for racers. If you dont want to be a racer thats fine I have a hard time thinking its just about prize money for everyone.
" why drive hundreds of miles and beat up your equipment in a race for a five dollar trophy and risk destroying there rides just to prove something."
I can totally understand not wanting to drive hundreds of miles.
I can totally understand not wanting to race your machine due the the abuse it may take.
I can totally understand not wanting to risk destroying your ride.
I can not under stand how prize money would change you not wanting to do any of those things. does the prize money make it fun? Or does the race and any of the factors that come with racing make it fun?
My guess is that their could be a $1000 prize for fist place and we would still have about the same amount of people interested. The people that want to race will be their and the ones who dont want to race will always a have reason why. Some of the reasons I can fully understand. Ask me why I dont like to go snowmobiling... I hate the cold. Its not because .......... Why go out in the cold and risk getting stuck and maybe breaking through the ice if no one is going to pay me to do it.
So while money may get people to do things they dont want to do. And sure I would go snowmobiling if someone payed me. I dont think borracing is trying to get people to race if they dint want to.
So who is planing on showing up?
Anyone need help with anything?
Im going to order tube tomorrow so I can do some work this weekend so if anyone needs any door bars harness mounts what ever speakup.
So I just wanted to let people know I took my Teryx to the 4wheel parts this morning for the pre tech. First off I want to say every one I talked with has super friendly and really want to help. Next The point they made was UTV class is here to appeal to the masses not to get the $40K full on race SxS's out their but to get the people that enjoy their UTV and would like to have some fun racing. A UTV is one of the most affordable ways to race so they dont want people to spend a ton of money doing stuff they don't need but still want every one to be safe.
Due to the intake, exhaust and CDI my UTV will race in the modified class. I will need to add some type of leg minder or door and also window nets. Their was an offer to help me with getting window nets made to fit if needed at what sounded to me like a reasonable price. IT was also suggested I change or add gussets to my harness bar since it was only 1" .095.
I don't feel like any of these changes is unreasonable as I planed to do doors and window nets anyways. I'm posting a pic of my machine so others can see where I'm at now for comparison.
I also want to say I have a tube bender welder some other basic fab tools so if their are other UTV'S that need some help getting race legal I will help where I can.

Wendover is busy this time of year with speed week so rooms will get taken early for those of you who miss out on rooms there will be camping allowed at the main pit area.
This is a new course and about 3/4 of it has never been raced before. the new section takes you up through the mountains accross the upper flats west of wendover and drops back down through the canyons into the wendover valley. VERY COOL NEW COURSE!!!
