I have been looking into putting power steering on my long travel rhino and came across a "steering stabilizer". Has anyone had any experience with this? I know what I would get with the full power steering, just not sure if the stabilizer is worth anything.
Is power steering that good?
I have not used one on a UTV but they work well on my trucks off roading. If you do rock crawling it would be a benefit to have one....
I do need to add one correction to my statement  . You must have power steering to really use a steering Stabilizer. I could not imagine having one on my 2005 that has manual steering  .
....but we are DOWN in HP in all models for 2011.
We all long for more power and now they are taking it away.... Ahhhhhhhh!
I am sure that they are removeing the power through the ECU and going to the older model ECU or a reflash will return the power back to normal  ...
I understand that in California due to new C.A.R.B. regulations again that all Polaris UTVs will have a decrease in power from 2 to 3 H.P.
. Also now with the joint venture with Kubota the full size Ranger will now be available with a diesel option
. It is nice to see that the standard RZR now comes with the RZRs H.O. engine now.....

The engine is basically the same as the RZR or the Sportsman. It is the one piece engine transmission that is new in the 2010 ranger and it still has not had enough time to be proven. It is only been out for around 9 months. If you need to get one the earliest would be mid 2011 maybe. I will not touch one my self till 2012. Anything that is first year has growing pains or problems and you normally don't start hearing things till the second year as they get miles and time on them.
For instance, look at the first year of the Honda TRX400 with clutch issues. The 2003 and 2004 ford 6.0 powerstroke had a mountain of computer re-flashes. The same goes for the 6.4 also. My buddy has the first year Duramax and has had to have re flashes for the first few years, now he says the transmission is doing funny stuff and has had a few trouble codes on injectors.
Polaris always seems to change models every third year and I would expect the next major change to be on the 2013 models. There will be some slight changes and or updates till then. The 2009 and the 2010 model would be the exception to that rule.....
Regardless of make or model, if you do some digging you will find dirt on it

Hi guys,
If you could pick any year ranger, Which would it be?(oldest through 2010, 0r 2011)
Why?
Which year or years would you avoid ?
Why?I'm looking to buy one, but the reliability issue has got me a little spooked. Buying one seems kinda like a crap shoot. Your advice could help improve the odds of getting a good one.
Thanks for your help.
The answer to question #1 is the 2012 Ranger. Why I say this is they just started to run the new drive line and engine package and it has not proven itself yet.
The answer to question #2 is there is no years to avoid. each year had its own set of problems but all have been good machines. The 2005 to 2006 models had better pulling power due to a lower gearing and are easier to modify. the 2007 to 2008 had the 50 mph top speed and a little quieter drive line with a speed gage but was not as easy to modify. the 2009 was the first year for the new body style and front suspension but had excessive heat issues coming from under the dash. this can be mostly fixed with 2010 upgrade parts. The 2010 models have a completely new unproven running gear and the under dash heating issue mostly addressed.
As for the reliability issue I have a 2005 that has been worked hard and has never had an issue. It is all in how it is taken care of  I do all my own work on it but for someone that is not mechanically inclined and relies on the dealership for work and maintenance it is the roll of the dice. There are a lot of bad dealers out there. You must find a good dealership with a well trained mechanic  :!: .
today i drove my buddys rzr and i found that the throttle was very jumpy and i wanted to know what is causing this can it be fixed
:?:
I would assume you mean jumpy of the line. Or do you mean all through the RPM range. Jumpy of the line is normally a sticky throttle cable or an indication of a warn drive belt and or primary clutch engagement issue. Through the whole RPM could be a TPS problem  .
I would say you are on the right track from what i see on the link. I would start posting also on the farm equipment restoration forums because I think there you would have better luck. Tractor restoration has become a big thing now days. I cant see the engine well enough but it looks like a early 1960s vintage Kohler engine :?: .
Also have you sent this picture to that manufacture on the link to see if they built that model. By the color of it it could be manufactured by kubota as well. I am sure that on the long run a lot of the parts will have to be fabricated by you to get it up and running again.....
I have to make a correction here since the factory manual has a bad typo in it and I keep forgetting about it. The box under the seat is the actual ECU that control the engine and the box under the hood is the ECM. ECU (Engine Control Unit) and ECM (Electronic Control Module). The parts list is correct in the wording on these parts.
The fusible link is located on the terminal block next to the battery. The ECM is under the hood near the passenger side. They control all the power distribution for the whole Ranger and have no fuses in it. they cost around $235 dollars and have had a history of failure. Allot of the failures were caused by people not wiring things up properly and overloading them.
Here is what the problem is. I have not had one go out yet and have not seen one go out so I have not needed to trouble shoot one. The manual does not give any instruction for testing them as well. I have done piles of research on the problems with them and everything points to just replacing it because there is no way to test it. You swap it out with a known good one from everything I have read on it.
Now we get to what you mentioned on how everything comes on for a few seconds and shuts off. The first thing Is to have the battery load tested and checked out because if the ECM drops below a certain voltage it will shut down everything. The second thing is to Check all the battery connections and test the fusible link for good connections. The third thing is pull the ECM and check for water damage in the two connectors plugging into it. The fourth thing is go to the splice savers and check them out as well. If all of above is good and there are no direct shorts in the system then It could be the ECM.
I would almost bet on a weak battery or bad connection near the battery Or the ECM plugs. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.... ![]()
when i see these i move one to the x spot and delete the rest. i usually don't read them, if they are not informative I can delete them all.
This is one of the things I have kept forgetting to bring up with you mark. I almost was going to do the same thing but it was somewhat ATV related :?: . It is good to get the latest information but ATVtoday.net is in my opinion very big winded on these post and I lose interest in it quickly. I really hate politics and the politicians as well regardless of left or right and it is very political the way it is worded.
My opinion is just get to the point on these post and keep it simple
.
I have an '05 Ranger XP. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this year? I bought this used and noticed the parking brake light wasn't working and found the sensor switch wasn't plugged in correctly (top and bottom). When i replugged in the leads, the rest of the electrical system went down. I bought a manuel, but it has a wiring diagram for the newer '05 with a speedometer and instrument cluster. Mine only has indicator lights, no speedometer. Any one have an older diagram or ideas on what the problem could be? Neutral light and parking brake light flash on when the key is turned on, then go out. Replugged the parking brake sensor the old way, but the lights still only flash on.
The manual you have must be for a 2007 or latter model because the instrument cluster was not available on the 2005 or 2006 models and only on the 2007 models and up. Also the ECU was changed after 2006. I have the manual for it but the fold out pages are way to big to scan and very involved. Also the only way to get any specific item to you I would have to e-mail it to you. I hope it is only the fusible link that has gone out because it is very possible that you may have popped the ECU that cost well over $200 and they have been known to have issues with them......
i have been lookin at these to bikes for awhile now and many people say the rzr s is not worth the money they say the rzr is just fine. i do not ride on 50 inch trails so it do not matter .Is the rzr s worth the extra money
Yes the S version is better and it has a little hotter engine as well...
I would not really call them friends but more like acquaintances that come along and use other peoples stuff without really asking. they were around the 200lbs range. They may have changed the design on them on the new body style after 2009 because they did change the bed style. They don't normally stay warped but they bend bad during the loading of them. I have taken mine apart and added some steel to it and there is not much inside for strength. They just are not rated for that amount of weight and I would prefer not to buy another new one.... .
Hopefully the forum responds a bit quicker for you all. We upgraded to a new server over the weekend. Thanks to all the members and sponsors who keep this forum trucking along.
Enjoy!

I am glad to hear of the change, I have noticed in the last 6 months several slow downs and freezings of the site and had lost some postings lost while submitting them.....
Does anyone know who makes a mid travel or long travel kit for an 09 Polaris ranger xp? Will it lift it?
Yes it will add some lift and yes they are out there. I am just not sure who manufactures them. I would contact Jarred at Ruthless Motorsports and ask him about the kits  .
