#166 Re: The X Spot » new here, new to sidexsides as well » 2011-02-01 15:31:21

i originally posted this in the rzr forum then figured it fit better here.

hey guys and gals, im thinking of buying my first side by side. just dont know which one yet. ive been riding
atvs since i was a kid. type of riding varies from trail, to climbing and mudding. but i also want something i
can use around the house for yard work, pushin snow, and want to be able to use to do some hunting as well.so
my question is do you guys think a rzr can do the house work and hunting side of things. or should i look at maybe a
rhino.

Since you figured you would like it here better i moved it for you wink

The rzr is faster and has more power. the rhino has a much better cargo box only outdone by the ranger xp. the ranger xp is faster and more stable then the rhino but not as fast as the standard rzr but is way more stable then the standard rzr. The rhino and the ranger xp will do a better job at working around the property and can play very well too. the ranger xp has a much greater towing and box weight limit then the other two. I personally think the ranger xp is a better all around vehicle that can do everything well. some things not as well as the rzr but that goes both ways. If all you are going to do is play, then the rzr is the choice. But if you need it to do everything, then it would be the ranger xp and then maybe the rhino as my second choice.....

I have driven all of them many times and I have currently had a ranger xp since 2005. After all these years with it, I do not see any reason why I would change other then to buy another new Ranger Xp.

I use mine for other things other then to just play.......

I'm sorry for anyones loss, it is tragic and I have personally experienced it. This feels like a conversation I've had a million times with people about guns. Some people can't believe that I carry all the time and that people having guns is why this world is so violent. I know there's no way to explain to somebody how I feel about it if that is their belief but I like to use this in response to their anti-gun talk. Guns kill people, just like pencils mispell words, spoons make people fat, and now I can add SidexSides flip themselves. I broke my back in an ATV accident in 2002. I still ride, it's what I love and I don't blame the ATV, I was the one riding it. Unless you own a Red 58' Plymouth Fury I think it's all on yourself not the manufacturer, unless something malfunctioned. You can always argue that something could be safer. I've gotta go now, I've gotta email Leatherman cause I cut my finger with my new knife.

Well said....

Regardless of manufacture, If they are driven by people that abuse them and pushes them way over the safety limits, they are going to get bit and will end up hurt and even dead. They must be driven responsibly and with care. in no way is it the manufactures fault and they can not always see every situation and prevent it. most of problems are driving under the influence, Overloading, sever modifications of the of UTV"s themselves, Under-aged riders or drivers. Going way, way to fast. All of which is the owners responsibility and not the manufacture   roll .....

#171 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 08 rzr has starting problems » 2011-01-25 15:55:34

i have a 2008 rzr that will start for about two seconds and then go dead. whenever i try to crank it back up all it wil do is turn over and not start. it sounds like it loses compresion but it is still pushing air out of the exhaust. it only does this in the winter when it is cold. during the warmer months it has never done this. i have checked the valves and everything in the head all of that is ok. has any one else ever run into this?[font=Arial:cda1b17230] [/font:cda1b17230]

Sounds like a electrical problem....

I have been giving it some thought on a fan bypass on mine but yes if there is no flow or the radiator is plugged up like mine gets now and then with the dead wild flowers getting sucked in it that will not fix the problem. I had a boil over problem that happened last trip and and so fare the problem has not been found on why it did it. At this time I am not sure if it was a stock thermostat or the PCM did not receive the Fan on command from the temp sensor or it was a stuck fan. Air trapped in the system would cause the fan not to come on and there is a procedure to purge the air and most of it was stated on my first post with the exception of removing the bleed screw on the thermostat housing.

As for a fan bypass switch, There may be a problem since the PCM senses fan load and it may set a trouble code light if it tries to turn on the fan while the bypass switch is in the on position. this will be tested next week when I try to do one on mine. this may only be an issue on pre 07 models that use a PCM and the newer one have changed out the system and may not include that function...

Forget it, Just seen the new section and it was just what i was thinking   roll  .

#174 Re: The X Spot » Just a suggestion........... » 2011-01-19 22:33:13

First it's too many sections, now not enough sections. I just can't please you guys  lol

BTW - New section added with a handful of other UTV's... including Joyners.  Let me know if I missed a particular model you think should be added.

It is simple, The main topic would be other UTVs as the main title, Sub catigorys would be each manufacture regardless of the decusion type. If it regarded anything that was honda big red related it would be in one thread under the honda thread regardless of topic. So under other UTVs it would have a honda thread as well as a joyner thread and so on and so fourth.  .

I would have to agree. I'll add some additional forum sections.

Funny, I made this suggestion almost a year ago tongue  wink .

#176 Re: General Polaris Ranger and Polaris RZR Discussions » 2001 type 10 ranger trans » 2011-01-15 13:07:44

hi to all . i have a technical question for all the gearheads . here we go .i have a new to me 2001 type 10 ranger 4x4 . long story short trns was run out of agl fluid and ran without it until whine started to occure.trans has a high pitch whine in forward gears only . in the trans it has a ring and pinion set up like a car or truck . in trying to fix the whine i replaced that ring and pinion and the pinion bearing , did not fix the problem.(ouch). on further investigation the backlash is way out of range. would anyone here know if and how to set the gear depth or if it can even be done. i called polaris but they say that there are no other shims or shim kits to move the ring gear where mine needs to go. i'm just thinking that if in some way that if it running for several days with no fluid might have heated the casing and distorted it or if in fact that there are aftermarket parts to fix my problem.
sorry for the rant but would really like to hear some suggestions on whether or not ya'll think that it it fixable or not.
PRE THANX TO ANY AND ALL COMMENTS

All pre 2007 ranger transmissions had a whining issue and that is normal. If you inspected all the components and bushings for ware and it all checks out there is not much more you can do if you are running the proper fluid and it was assembled properly. I have never heard of the cases distorting as well. As for the backlash it may be case ware when it ran out of fluid and I am not aware of Polaris haveing different shims to compensate for this but maybe it is something that can be fabricated.....

Sound like something is overheating and shutting down. It could be the ECU, bad ground or even the voltage regulator but there is no way of knowing with the information provided......

#179 Re: General Kawasaki Teryx and Mule Discussion » Death of My Daughter » 2011-01-05 14:11:55

Seems to me it would be better placed in a drunk driving forum instead of giving our sport unneeded or wanted bad press.

If this was posted in a drunk driving forum, you would not have ever seen it. It is related to the UTV sport regardless if the man was drunk or not and I have seen this problem all the time with people that use them. Mistakes were made and he is trying to the best of his power and remind people so they may not make the same mistake. That is the reason for his post on this site  ......

#180 Re: General Kawasaki Teryx and Mule Discussion » battery keeps dying? » 2010-12-14 10:01:24

yeah i figured it out between the stereo and lights and short kid rides the stator couldnt keep up so i just got a bigger battery and it seems to be helping out

That wont fix the problem due to the fact that your charging system is not big enough to run all that stuff and all you are doing is upping the capacity and not the replenishment of the battery. install a battery maintainer when the UTV is not in use....
