Hey I'm also from Bama. Question though, I have an 06 700 ranger that's having problems staying on when I start, but after I run it a while it'll do okay. Any ideas what may cause this frustrating problem.
Roll Tide Roll!!!!!!!!
do a fuel pressure test and test the TPS Switch.....
One more thing. Does the 500 come with all the same features as the 700 (suspension wise)?
Is the 500 man enough? I'm gonna be putting around with the kids + me = 5 total.
Thanks in advance
Back in 2002 I bought my first Polaris Ranger 500 which I sold to a land owner in 2005, and then bought the Ranger Xp 700. Still to this day the Ranger 500 is running and doing its job. The 500 did not have the power or the top speed of the 700 but it did everything the 700 has done in every way. It had a 41 MPH top speed which was more then the stock rhino at the time and basically the same suspension and drive line as all rangers till 2010.
The Ranger 700 I have has done some real amazing things and rate its stability far better then the rhino. I have hauled 600 lbs of firewood and gear in the bed and climbed some very, very step hills with no problems in stability; in fact I normally lose traction before any danger comes along. In a few occasions I have done the same job with a near stock Rhino and boy do you want to have an E-Ticket ride in the stability test, there is no comparison. I have only heard of this tippy thing twice and one was just now with zrated and the other was a comment by someone that does not even own one. I have even hauled over 1000lbs of firewood in a trailer along with what was in the bed with now problems. I guess it could be a problem on models built from 2009 since I have not tried the same stuff with the newer ones with the suspension changes. Also the much added power of zrateds ride and the added weight could have change the UTVs geometry as well.
What I do like on the new ones is the power steering and the 800 engine. The ride is also an improvement as well but the older models still have a very good ride anyways. I like the storage better on the older models as well. 2005 and 2006 had under hood storage as well as a real big storage box accessible from the driver side without pulling the seat. 2007 had a gearing change that improved top speed from 44 mph to 50 mph. My 2005 does 49 mph with the SP belt and SP Ecu and 51 with the cam upgrade. Low end and mid range was a big improvement with all the upgrades.
As for multiple people, I do not recommend this even though there are kits available to make this all happen, the Ranger Xp was not designed for this and that is my opinion. You would be better getting a Ranger Crew for this job.
One last thing on the tippy issue. All UTVs have there limits and from all the ones I have driven, the pre 2009 rangers have been the best so fare. Like I stated earlier, I have not tried it with a newer one so I can not make a comparison. All years have had there pluses and minuses, but they are all good UTVs.
As for the suspension, it is the same as the pre 2009 Ranger Xps
.
 HOLY S#!* That is one awesome looking machine ! Is there anything "POLARIS" left on Brutus ?!? Do you use it for work or play ? Props to you... great job. Gives me something to look up to.
Thank you.
It's all for play.
Problem is, just when I get it done we find out we have a new addition to the family on the way. There will soon be 7 of us!
Now I need to sell it and get a Crew!
Congratulations on the new addition
. To keep it more simple next time maybe do a weber transplant in the crew for the next project  ![]()

Even though I do like the idea of the 800 in the ranger, I would hold out for at least another year till the one piece transmission rear end system proves itself more. The 2009 does only have the 700 but it uses the proven two piece transmission rear differential system which I would rather have over the more costly one piece system....
Strange that all 4 of them have the exact same problem. This might be dumb, but could they all possibly have water in the gas? Because alcohol is hygroscopic (draws moisture), and because of increased alcohol in fuel these days (10-15% all the time, not just in winter like it used to be, at least around here), water in the fuel is a more common problem than it used to be. Maybe wouldn't be a bad idea to use a "dry gas" product all the time. This alcohol content also doesn't always agree with the original factory carb jetting (which didn't necessarily account for that alcohol content), so that may also be an issue as well.
The more alcohol in the fuel the bigger the jet is needed to fuel the engine and that means less fuel economy. The EPA/CARB keeps changing the fuel consumption requirements of cars and trucks and then changes the fuel to include more alcohol. It is like changing the rules of a game. Alcohol is a high octane fuel and works well in the drag cars we built but it takes a huge jet to feed the engine. A 100% alcohol engine would consume 50% to 75% more fuel on a run then a car with 110 to 120 octane fuel. Yes it does attract more water as well and it is very hard on rubber.....
I am really new to this forum, so this may be a really dumb question. I was wondering if factory service manuals were available for download on this forum, and if so, where do I find them? Thanks.
No,There is a problem with copy rite issues and most online manuals are done out of country or when on line tracking can not be done on them. If you search hard, you can find them but this site does not do it or post it. Most are now on PDF format now days on current modules but it may require paying for them on special sites.....
I just bought a Robby Gordon Rzr 4. I have a total of 12 hrs. on it. Something blew out a hole in the transfer case, gears started grinding. I took it to the shop where I bought it, the service guy said that this is about the 4th or 5th one he has seen with a hole in the same spot. Has anyone experienced this ? And what can I do to prevent it from happening again ?
If the dealer is saying this is the 4th or 5th one that he has seen in a RZR-4. And since it is the same transmission as used in the standard RZR. And I also have not heard of this happening on any of them, it sounds like the extra weight of the RZR-4 may be to much for the transmission  . The transmissions I still believe are made by Dana/spicer corp and until there is enough failures, the problem will not be addressed till then. I know of no aftermarket upgrades as of now but I am sure at some point that could happen.
Until there is a fix by the factory or aftermarket, I suggest getting the extended warranty  . Maybe someone else will chime in that may know the problem first hand.....
I HAVE 4 2009 4000 MULES I MAINTAIN AT WORK. ALL OF THEM HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM-THEY CONSTANTLY STALL. THEY START FINE BUT STALL AFTER YOU COME TO A STOP OR IF YOU REV THE ENG THEY STALL. THEY RUN FINE IF YOU CAN GET GOING. I'VE CHANGED PLUGS,AIR FILTER, ADJUSTED THE VALVES. I DON'T HAVE A WAY TO CHECK FUEL PRESSURE. THE DEALER SAYS IT SHOULD BE 41-46 PSI AT IDLE. I'VE CLEANED THE SCREEN ON THE FUEL PUMP AND EVEN TRIED REMOVING IT ON ONE-I PUT IT BACK AFTER A DAY TO SEE IF IT MADE A DIFFERENCE. THEY SAID WITH THE KEY ON FOR 3 SECONDS I SHOULD GET 1.7OZ OR MORE FUEL OUT OF THE LINE. I GET 2.5-3OZ ON ALL 4 OF THEM. THE DEALER SAYS THATS FINE AND MY PUMP IS PROBABLY NOT THE PROBLEM. ALL THEY TELL ME IS ETHYNOL IN THE GAS IS THE PROBLEM. IF ANY OF YOU HAD THIS PROBLEM AND FIGURED IT OUT I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOME HELP.---THANK YOU
The EPA and there ETHYNOL is going to cause a lot of problems with rubber parts in the engines fuel systems and obama has signed into law just recently to make it even worse. Your dealer could have a good point but it takes more then a few years for the problems to show up unless they used real poor quality rubber in your rig.
Put a fuel pressure gauge on the engine and watch it as you drive it around and take note on what happens with the pressure when it stalls. if there is no change then it may be electrical....
I have a 2006 polaris ranger 700xp. The neutral and low range icons do not appear on the speedometer when in those gears. Also when I select one of those gears, the 4 wheel drive will disengage. any ideas on problem.
Check the linkage adjustment first. If that is good then it could be the contactor switch on the transmission that tells the ecm what state the transmission is in. If that is good then it could be a defective ECM. It controls all the indicator lights as well as the AWD system. 2006 and older have this module and 2007 and latter went with a different system. Also check and clean all the contact connectors from the transmission switch to the ECM and all grounds....
Hey, everybody - great website. I am a newbie here, and have a question about my '07 Mule 610. I plan on adding a cab, overhead console with radio, heater, plow lights, wipers, etc... I know I will have to go to a bigger battery, but are there any options for upgrading the charging system so it can keep up? I have a Battery Tender and plan on using that also, but I wanted to make sure that I didn't kill the battery if I was out for extended periods plowing (I plow out 5-6 other people as well and am sometimes out for several hours). Also, my brother and Dad use the Mule to plow if I am at work and I wanted to kind of "fool-proof" it to keep someone else from being stranded. Obviously, I should watch my power management (leave radio off, turn plow lights on only when needed). I have seen a kit from Polaris for the Ranger that allows you to add a second battery, and the charging system will handle them both, according to my understanding. However, the Polaris charging system may be far different than the Mule's. Is there anything like that for the Mule? (The Polaris kit I believe is ~$200, and I would prefer to not have to try and make it work on a Mule if I don't have to.) Also, I have no idea if the Mule system could even handle such a set-up. I haven't seen anything like that from Kawasaki, and they don't mention upgrading the battery in any of their publications on the cabs, radios, etc... Or, in someones experience, is the bigger battery and Battery Tender enough? Just wondering what your ideas were. - Thanks!
Adding a bigger or second battery will only add reserve capacity and will take longer to charge two batteries then one off the stock stator, This is OK as long you charge it after a ride with a battery charger. I do not know much about mules but is there any way to add a pulley off the engine crank somehow for a small automotive style alternator. I am also not sure if it also may have a PTO ability as well. One last thing is on some road race cars and Winston cup cars they run a alternator off the drive shaft but it will only charge as long as the UTV is moving at cruising speed  .
The tanks have a small overflow hose, If the tank was topped off with near freezing fuel, then the exhaust that runs near the tank on at least with the earlier version Ranger Xps, then the fuel could expand expand a little as the tank gets hotter. this may be grasping at straws but could be whats happening here   ....
They could have easily put a hotter motor in the crew and four recaro style seats instead of the bench seats and still have room for a center counsel in the front and back seats for drinks and stuff, It already has better stability due to it wider stance but can get better with a good shock upgrade. It even has a great bed to put stuff in and is way more practical then that the RZR-4 so called bed, The rzr 4 seating arrangement is way to close together for me, It is not meant for bigger adult people.
Yes I still do think it was a waste of money and resources and yes it sells well. I just think the money should have been spent on a Ranger Crew Xp that would seat four full size adults and be more practical. I drove a Rzr-4 and was not impressed. It was to small and the seating was to tight and uncomfortable. The sport of the RZR-4 was lost compared to the RZR-s due to the added weight and and length. It does not turn as well and it is way less stable due to the added weight of passengers. It is like adding a Race big block to a crew cab truck and expecting it to keep up with a ZR-1 Corvette, it just was not meant to be.
I would not own one but that is me. The RZR-s and Rzr-Xp would be the exception, they are true sport Utvs. Other then that I will stick with the Ranger line for carrying multiple passengers. Maybe I would build my own custom crew to eat Rzr-4s instead
.....
one year before. R and D had to of been working on it for a while, I am sure it was aa marketing ploy to find user type and expectations. They also asked what you would you pay for such a vehicle, I should of said 12k instead of what thy go for now.
One day Yamaha wil get back into it.
I went through the same type of interview and basically I said a RZR can not do the job Of a Ranger XP or HD and the ranger Xp can also only do 2/3rds of what the RZR was built for. As fare as I am concerned the Ranger Crew is the only more then 3 passenger vehicle built and the RZR-4 is a vehicle for small people and is only good for that. I am personally not sure why Polaris built or wasted money on it and it could easily have been out done with a well modified Ranger Crew instead. The Rzr Crew is seated for 200 lbs people at best and the 50 inch wheel base is none existent with it so why not have more wheelbase with the ranger then try to blow up a RZR :?: .
I have a (SE) 2010 800 crew. Was looking to up the power but having trouble finding parts like a programer, exaust ect. I can find parts for the rzr 800, xp, and hd. But not to much for the 800 crew. So I guess what i need to know is, is it the same motor which the mods enterchange. So the xp programer works on the crew as with the hd. I dont know to much about this as you can tell from the post. Any help would great and thanks for the time. AC :?
Almost all the parts for the xp and the HD should work except maybe the head pipe. As for the ECU, a programmer will not do much unless you start heavier modifications like changing cams and exhaust as well as head porting and intake improvements. It is the same motor but the HD and the crew come with a little restrictor plate and they all have the clutch limiter installed.....
Just an update to the fan over ride switch.....
I did test and then installed the fan over ride switch the other day and so fare it has not freaked out the PCM and has not set off the trouble light.........
