I have looked at over a dozen Rhinos and several other SxS over the past couple of months. I looked at one today and I bought it. It is an 07 660 with 3200 miles with some accessories and a winch. I was worried about the high mileage, but the compression was good (164) and for the most part it was in good condition. There are several things that turned me off such as the previous owner putting about 40 horsepower worth of stickers on it, holes in the floor (seems to be a common problem), and home made accessories (roof and lights). The previous owner also took out the original seatbelts and put in junky 5pt harnesses. If they were decent I would be happy, but they aren't.
That being said, I got the dealer to come down in price a decent amount and got them to put new wheels and tires on it. It had 28" super swampers on it that were beat to he!! and were chewing up the corner of the floor.
All in all I am happy so far. I spent the evening changing fluids and giving her a checkup. Headed to the cabin Wed-Sun, so we will see how it goes. Thanks for all of the info in this site and the helpful people.
If anyone has the oem seatbelts and hardware lying around, let me know. I think I am going to hate these harnesses

So my hunt continues.
I couldnt come to an understanding with the local dealership as far as price and then they sold it which helped my decision. I have since found an 07 660 with 3000 miles. It seems like it is in good condition. Has nice chrome wheels and mud tires, and comes with a roof, windshield, and a winch. I am leery of the miles. Should I be worried, or not? I am going to go back and take a second look on Monday. The guy wants 6300. Any advice thrown out before then would be great.
Thanks
I agree with the benefit of FI. I am just trying to get into one on a budget and without having to sell a different toy.
I am not afraid of carbs though. I have an affliction with chopping out 70' s Honda CB750's. They have 4 carbs and need to be synced. It is a love/hate relationship.
The width is really my only concern. I ride predominently in northern MN. It is full of swamps and some of the trails that I currently ride are somewhat skinny. Right now I figure that I don't really need to go down some of the skinnier trails, but I am concerned I might change my mind if my buddies are going one way and I can't fit. I am going to continue to look for a deal and cruise the forums for info in the meantime.
That is a great video. I wouldn't have thought that would have pulled it either. I appreciate the replies. I am not against a 700 or a 660, I just am looking to save enough money now that I can buy a newer one if it turns out a side by side will work for me. I would hate to shell out 11 grand or more and then find out that it won't go where I want to go and it ends up sitting in the garage.
Hello, I hope questions like this are tolerated here.
I have been looking to buy a used Rhino. I have been looking mostly at newer 450's and older 660's. I found one at a local dealer. It seems to have all of the accessories that I would need...for now. It is an 08 450. Has a superwinch, snow plow, hard top, full windshield, and a rubber bed mat. It has no display, so it is hard to tell what the mileage is, but it looks like it is in good condition. Dealership is asking $6800 for it. This price seems to be in the ballpark of comparable Rhino's I see on the internet. My questions:
-Is this a reasonable price, if not what is, and what can I use as leverage to talk the dealer down?
-What should I look at in depth to see if there are any hidden issues? Tires seem decent, not alot of noticeable wear and tear.
If anyone has ideas and opinions, throw them out there.
Thanks in advance,
Erik
Thanks for the information and advice. I think SXS is going to be the way to go. I think that I am going to look for something like a used Rhino I can put on the trailer or in the bed of my truck. I also figure if I buy used I can afford to buy another smaller used atv. Thanks again for the advice, glad I stopped by.
I thought I would start a new thread for this one.
I have been into ATV's in Northern MN for most of my life. I now have a four year old son and I thought a side X side would be a good addition so I could take him with me. This weekend I went out on most of the trails that I ride just to get an idea of how wide they were and whether or not a Side by Side would even be able to make it through. I think that I could go on most of the trails that I normally ride.
Here are the questions,
Is the DNR hammering people for riding UTV's off road? I am not familiar with the laws, but I have heard that they are fairly restrictive.
Is there anybody else here from Northern MN that rides a S X S exclusively?
I really see alot of advantages in being able to use a S X S in MN and also being able to take my son or my father out to South Dakota or to Michigan Turkey hunting. I just don't want to buy one and then find out that I am restricted to dirt roads or minimum maintenance roads. I can do those in my truck.
Any advice would be great.
