I have an '05 Ranger XP.  I keep getting a check engine code of 61 which means I have a short in the overheating lamp circuit.  I have checked both the ground and hot wire all the way back to the ECM and both test OK. Would the problem be in the ECM?  When you turn on the ignition to accessory, the only light that lights up is the neutral light.  Should the hot lamp also light as a test if it is working properly?  ANy help would be greatly appreciated.  I hate to drive it if the overheating light won't come on.  Hoping I don't have to replace the ECM.   Thanks.

Thanks once again Rangerdale.  Your diagnosis and instructions were exactly right yet again.  Tie rods on both sides were screwed all the way in.  I still can't figure out how we missed it during the first four hours of trying the move the toe in. big_smile

I just replaced my '05 XP's steering. Now I'm having trouble with the toe in.  I adjust the tie rods ends out as far as I dare go and the wheels still point outward severely.  Can the threaded rod be screwed out of the crimped arm to further adjust the toe in or can you only adjust the tie rod ends?  If so, how do you adjust the threaded rod without tearing up the threads?
Thanks for any advice.

REsolution:
Rangerdale, you're a genius. Charged up the battery and everything works fine now. Battery must have been just low enough to shut down the ECM.  Thnaks for your help- saved me $238! big_smile

Thanks Rangerdale, you've given me something to do this weekend that should keep me out of trouble.  Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be battery related.

Thanks for the reply.  The manual I paid to download says it was for '05-07 model Rangers.  Clearly they stretched the truth, although it has been accurate for about everything but the electrical wiring.  Is there an easy way to diagnose ECU versus fusible link failure? Everything comes on for a second, then goes off.  IF the link is bad, seems like nothing would work.  Where is the fusible link?  I know where the ECU is under the drivers seat.
Thanks.

I have an '05 Ranger XP.  Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this year? I bought this used and noticed the parking brake light wasn't working and found the sensor switch wasn't plugged in correctly (top and bottom).  When i replugged in the leads, the rest of the electrical system went down.  I bought a manuel, but it has a wiring diagram for the newer '05 with a speedometer and instrument cluster.  Mine only has indicator lights, no speedometer. Any one have an older diagram or ideas on what the problem could be?  Neutral light and parking brake light flash on when the key is turned on, then go out.  Replugged the parking brake sensor the old way, but the lights still only flash on.
